Blackberry Lemonade | A Late Summer Lemonade Twist

Oh and by the way. IT’S SEPTEMBER. I had this brilliant plan to post this recipe the last week in August because blackberries are still on the brink of perfection here in Oregon…except today {the day I thought was the last day of August} is in fact the first day of September. How’s that for organization?! Even though summer is on its way out and I suppose it’s fall now {or is it?} this lemonade makes for a fabulous beverage any time of year. It’s a wee bit on the fancy side, but still super simple to make in about 10 minutes.

Bowl of Fresh blackberries

Main Ingredients Needed

For this Blackberry Lemonade, you’ll need just a few ingredients!

  • Water– to combine with the blackberries, lemon juice and sugar.
  • Fresh Blackberries
  • Granulated Sugar- to sweeten and off set the sour of the lemon juice.
  • Mint Leaves- for a slight hint of mint flavor.
  • Lemon Juice– this is lemonade, after all!
  • Ice
  • Mint Sprigs– for garnish, and totally optional

How To Make Blackberry Lemonade | Directions

Start out with these pretty little things….lots and lots of blackberries!

Step 1: Melt Sugar in Boiling Water

Pour water and sugar into a small saucepan. Bring to boil to melt all the sugar, then remove from heat. Set aside to cool. This is simple syrup.

Step 2: Mash Blackberries

Place berries into the bottom of a pitcher with a good handful of fresh mint and mash away. You can use a wooden soon but a potato masher works just as well.

Step 3: Squeeze Lemons

Next, squeeze a bunch of lemons to get all their juice. We need one cup…I think I used about 5 lemons?! Something like that.

Now comes a weird part. I don’t have a small strainer….SOOOOO I just use the back of a microplane grater.

Just pour the juice right through and….

VOILA! It catches all the seeds! Easy peasy.

Step 4: Combine Lemon Juice, Water + Simple Syrup

Pour in lemon juice, water and 1 cup cooled simple syrup. Pour over ice and serve with sprigs of mint.

Step 5: Add in Cold Water

The last thing is a little extra cold water and that is it! The Lemonade is complete.

Pour this over some ice and you’ve got some tasty summertime drinks….in the fall. Lol! Either way, this is a yummy way to enjoy the last few crops of blackberries!

Seriously, this looks increds! I’ve got some blackberries hanging over our fence from our neighbors yard that I’m going to put to some good use.

Love 90’s movies! My faves are Shawshank Redemption, Good Will Hunting, Pretty Woman, Ghost and Thelma & Louise.

I don’t have a small strainer either so that’s genius!
