Golden Tote Review

*Disclaimer: I was not paid to write this review. I did however receive this shipment of clothes for free so I could review the Golden Tote services. All opinions expressed are 100% my own.*

Now that I’m getting into shape, I’m a sucker for new clothes! When my new friends at Golden Tote contacted me to see if I’d like to try out their services and new clothes, I obviously said yes…hence this post.

If you’re wondering what.the.heck Golden Tote is, you’re not alone. I had to do my research too. It’s kinda-sorta like Stitch Fix but with some major differences:

*Golden Tote has 2 sales every month: 1-$49 sale and 1-$149 sale. The cheaper sale gets you 2-3 articles of clothing worth up to $250. The more expensive sale gets you 5-7 items worth up to $600.

*You pick a sale you want to pay for and then you get to pick 1-2 articles of clothing you want to receive in your shipment. {–>like!}

*You fill out a size and style profile.

*Based on the clothes you picked and your style and size, Golden Tote picks the remaining articles of clothes that will be part of your shipment.

*You pay and then get wait for your clothes in the mail.

*You get said clothes and try them on. If you like them and they fit, great. If not, tough bananas. You either keep them all or send them all back. {–>dislike!}

And that’s how it works.

And now, without further ado…here’s what I got:

First things first. I literally pulled this gold tote out of my box. Thought that bit of irony was slightly hilarious. ANYWAYS, this is how it looked all wrapped up. I thought the plastic cheapened the look, but I guess the clothes are protected?! Whatevs.

I got one of the more expensive totes which meant I picked two items that went into my shipment. This was item numero uno. A capped sleeve floral number. It’s not my favorite thing in the box but I do quite like it. Super cute with leggings.

Second thing I picked was this navy zebra button down shirt.

Seriously–zebras on my shirt! Love. I thought the shirt was a little big considering it was a small, but I guess that’s the style all the kids are wearing these days. The zebras make up for the loosey-goosey-ness.

Now onto the other items I didn’t pick. This white embroidered shirt was a pleasant surprise. I thought I was going to hate it, but I actually love it. A tad bit lose, but love it.

THIS SHIRT I seriously thought I was going to hate, but it actually ended up being my favorite piece in the entire tote! It’s black see through lace with grey 3/4 sleeves. Don’t know if you can make out the lace with my crummy iPhone photos?! With my purple tank underneath, it became 2 million times cuter.

This tank top is cute and I liked it, but I specified to not receive any items without sleeves sooooo that was a fail. #wompwomp

I would have sent this back had I been given the option.

Same problem with this dress. No sleeves. Plus with my body type, I really don’t see this as flattering.

My last item I got was a black tank top/undershirt that I didn’t bother trying on because I have a billion of those already. Nursing moms probably understand why I have that many. I guess it’s always good to have an extra.

So there you have it! Out of all those items, there were only 2 that I didn’t like. Not bad at all.

Overall, I thought this service was:

*fun and pleasantly surprising

*a cool way to shop and get some more expensive pieces for less money

*upsetting to find my request for items with sleeves going unnoticed

At the end of the day, I thought it was worth the money if you end up getting items you want to keep. I guess it’s sort of a gamble but most online styling services are. Might be better to sign up with a friend and then trade items you don’t like?! I dunno.

Hi! I like the items you got. I think the black tank is meant to go under the raglan. Also, GT has a trading group on FB so you can get items you love 🙂
Thanks for the review, I hope I get my tote soon!

Very interesting!! I thought all of the clothes looked really cute on you. But I can’t imagine how people are really going to go for the “all or nothing” thing. Except for one time, I’ve never chosen to keep every single one of the pieces from a StitchFix fix. If they change their rules, though, I’d totally consider signing up. I like their style! 🙂

    Thanks for sharing!!

I have been curious about Golden Tote. Love the zebra top and lace top! Also like that you can pick some of the items where you cannot for Stitchfix (although I noticed you said you paid more for that option). Stinks you cannot return any though.

I actually think they all look great on you. The black and white dress looks quite flattering on you, since you have such a small figure. I would not be able to pull that off. I would look frumpy! LOL! From my perspective, I thought they all looked nice. I especially liked the white top, very feminine. And you have great arms, why not show them off! 🙂

Cute items! I agree on that floral tank….it’s not the cutest. BUT, that lace and grey one is adorable! If you have a sewing machine, you can easily take in the ones that are alittle too loose for you. And, you can take the extra A-line skirt part in to make it straight….might be better? BTW you have GREAT arms…you should show them off! 😉

You are so gorgeous!! I totally think you look amazing in everything. But I would also be frustrated if my requests went unnoticed. Thank you for this review!!

I know you said you don’t like the stripped top BUT if you get a thick cute belt you can really spice it up & flatter your figure & add a cute little cardigan to cover the straps & boom you’ve got a rockin top! 🙂 overall I thought your tote came out pretty good!

Great review Lauren! Been following your Stitch Fix posts for a while. This is a great option though if you get a bunch of stuff ya like. I think I prefer Stitch Fix though, since you can send back what ya don’t like!

Side comment: As someone earlier mentioned, there’s a Facebook trade/swap group for golden tote that allows you to trade/sell items you don’t like. You can also find many items that either sold out or were surprise items in other totes. It’s a good option if say you like at least half your tote and want to trade the rest (instead of returning the whole tote).

I’ve never heard of this service- sounds fun! I actually LOVE the floral tank top on you, so cute! You look great!

I am REALLY tempted to sign up for Golden Tote this month. I like the idea but I do wish that you could send back the items that you don’t want to keep and hold on to the rest.
