Hi Friends!

As some of you may or may not know, I HAD A BABY! He is glorious and squishy and adorable and wonderful and we are so so lucky to have him in our family. He hasn’t been here long, but we can’t imagine our lives without him! But along with baby comes that squishy tummy and thunder thighs that I am not a fan of….it happened to me with the first two pregnancies and lo and behold, here we are again.

I really don’t ever feel like myself unless I’m finding little pockets of time for meditating, eating moderately healthy and exercising regularly. And since I missed the whole new year’s resolution thing by {pregnancy} default, I was needing a little kick in the pants to get me going again. I know myself and if I don’t start now, then it’ll take me another 6 months to start! After I had Blake, I told myself “when I have the energy to exercise, then I’ll exercise” HA! That’s why it took me SO LONG to get back into shape after him because when does anyone have the energy to exercise? {I’m talking to all you Mom’s out there!!}

So, I’m trying a new approach this time to see if it can be helpful in getting a new routine down for healthy eating, exercising and meditating. I imagine I’ll be able to lose a good chunk of weight because I’m breastfeeding too, but I’m doing this to get a new routine down, hopefully gain a little energy from the small amounts of exercise I do and to be accountable for what I put into my mouth.

HOW DOES DIETBET WORK?

DietBet is an online program {basically a company} that sets a goal of losing 4% of your body weight in 4 weeks. At the start of the 4 weeks, you weigh in and put in a wager…basically its you saying “I bet $35 that I can lose 4% of my body weight in a month”. {For this DietBet, the wager amount is $35.} At the end of the 4 weeks, if you have lost 4% then you split the pot with all the other winners. If you don’t lose 4% then you receive no payout. I don’t see any of your money; Dietbet takes care of everything! You just have to send in your pictures and your weight and then get cracking 🙂

My Dietbet Details

The ‘Lauren’s Latest back into shape post baby‘ Dietbet will be starting February 15th and will run until March 13th, 2016. Your initial weigh-in will happen February 13th or 14th {take a picture of you on your scale and then a picture of the number on the scale and send it into the folks at Dietbet}. Then once the Dietbet starts, you get active, eat healthy and work on losing 4% of your body weight.

The nice thing about DietBet is you can use whatever plan you want to lose weight–it doesn’t matter to them! As long as you feel good about what you’re doing, then by George, GO FOR IT. Atkins, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, MyFitnessPal…it doesn’t matter! They just want you to lose 4% of your body weight in a healthy way– the way you feel most comfortable doing it.

Taken pre-baby #3 when I was working my butt off with my trainer!! I do not look like either of these photos right now, unfortunately.
HOW I PLAN ON LOSING THE BABY WEIGHT
  1. HYDRATE! Rule number one when it comes to breastfeeding is making sure you’re drinking all.the.water. When my Mom comes to stay with us once I have a baby, she is constantly bringing me glasses of water! Seriously, that’s her main mission in life–to ensure my milk supply stays strong for baby. {She used to work at La Leche League, so I get all the knowledge she possesses–>lucky me!!} Also, keeping your body filled with water means a faster metabolism.
  2. DO NOT count or cut my calories, but eat real wholesome foods! When I was trying to lose the baby weight after I had Brooke, I tried MyFitnessPal and their recommendation was for me to eat 1500 calories a day. I couldn’t for the life of me do it, thanks to my constant state of hunger due to breastfeeding! Believe me, I tried, but I was STARVING and GAINING weight. So, I tried upping my calories to 1800-2200 and that did the trick! I felt satisfied, my milk supply didn’t suffer and I was able to slowly lose the weight.
  3. No Refined Sugars! I’m totally ok with myself having a little real maple syrup or agave, but I’m not going to be having any processed sugars at all {because they make me groggy and even more tired}. With the amount of sleep I’m expected to run on, I need to do everything I can to conserve the little bit of energy I do have and that means no sugar. It’ll be hard at first, but I’ve done it before!
  4. Very Light Exercise! I’m talking 20-30 minutes of easy, casual, daily walks with the baby and maybe Blake if I’m feeling up to it. If I can get a little energy through some exercise, I’ll take it! If I push it and go for 45 minutes, then I get exhausted, so I have to be careful.
  5. SLEEP! Ok, I realize that this might be a little unrealistic, but I’m going to do my best to sleep as much as possible and go to bed at a reasonable hour. I am a notorious night owl, but I’m trying to change!! So, we’ll see how this goes…I know my body does best on 9 hours of sleep. Excessive much? Yes. But, it is what it is.
  6. MEDITATE. Every morning, I’m going to try to have a 10 minute meditation session where it’s just me and my thoughts and/or scripture study time. I need SOMETHING to center myself and keep me grounded. When I’ve done this in the past, those 10 minutes have made a world of difference in my attitude.
  7. Listen to my body. I’m going to try to pay attention to when I’m hungry, when I’m thirsty, when I’m tired and when I need a little pick me up. I tend to get busy and do things {eat, stay up late} because I’m bored and/or feeling lazy. If I ask myself “what does my body want?” and listen to it instead of my habits, then I’m more likely to get a better answer and a positive result.

So, that’s my unofficial plan.

I’d love to have you all follow along and maybe even lose a pound or two! Over the course of this month, I’ll be posting healthy recipes to support this goal of mine on my blog, plus mayyyybe a few before and after photos if I’m feeling brave enough. If there’s a recipe you’d like me to re-create or make skinny, let me know!
