Last weekend, I was able to go visit my husband and see him for 3 1/2 loooong days! Except they went by super fast. {FYI-He’s doing some training in Missouri and is done 1/3 of it so far. He comes home in May.}

So, I flew into St. Louis last Thursday night, Gord drove up Friday morning and we ate our way through the city as best as we could. There were lots and lots of restaurants we wanted to go to, but many of them were completely sold out because of the Valentine’s Day weekend which is fine. Maybe we’ll just have to go back to visit the rest ๐Ÿ™‚

Here are lots of the pictures I took from the trip. Enjoy! All restaurant recommendations + my google map of St. Louis are at the bottom of this post <3

We stayed at the Omni Majestic Hotel. The accommodations were fine and a little dated, but the service we got was awesome. I’d recommend this hotel in a heartbeat.

IMG_0367

Fitz’s is a St. Louis company that bottles its own soda…too bad my new years resolution is to NOT DRINK SODA. I was requesting all sorts of juices on my flights…lol!

IMG_0378

Friday brunch was at Rooster…only a few blocks from the hotel.

IMG_0375

My husband’s plate. I forget what this was called, but it’s a homemade biscuit topped with fried eggs, sausages, potatoes and gravy. It was SO GOOD. I didn’t think I was going to like it as much as I did. The potatoes and gravy made it what it is, in my opinion.

IMG_0387

I had the banana nut french toast. Swoon!! I could only eat 2 half slices before I was full! My husband finished a lot of the rest.

IMG_0396

And then because I’m a rule breaker, we got dessert…..at 11 am….because they were offering us S’more Crepes. Hello.

Talk about sugar overload!! But it was all worth it.

IMG_0410

The Gateway arch!! We walked from the restaurant to here and then took the cars up to the top.

IMG_0422

At the top, we were able to see so much, like my cute husband. Oh YEAH! Love that guy.

IMG_0425

Views from the top!

Who loves a good fish taco? Well, I found the best fish taco in all the land! I can’t handle how delicious this taco is..

IMG_0449_edited-1

Second favorite? These Chicken Mango tacos….git in mah belleh.

IMG_0465

Dessert was churros. #gooddecision

IMG_0469

The next morning, we went around the corner from the hotel to a place called Park Avenue Coffee for their gooey butter cakes which were featured several times on the Food Network.

IMG_0473

Cinnamon roll!!

IMG_0474

Coconut Lime GBC!

DELISH. Those two were my favorites from the sampling we got.

IMG_0481

Lunch was at Pappy’s Smokehouse!! We got their 7 minutes after they opened their doors and we still waited in line for a good 20 minutes.

IMG_0484

Vinegar based coleslaw like this is the perfect side to cut the butteriness of the ribs or pulled pork!

IMG_0488

Hello gorgeous! Some of the best ribs I’ve ever had.

IMG_0491

For Valentine’s Day, we found Jilly’s! A cute little cupcake shop that won cupcake wars on Food Network ย ๐Ÿ™‚ Happy to taste test these on your behalf!

IMG_0497

Chocolate covered strawberry cupcakes? Oh yes they did.

IMG_0512

IMG_0505_edited-1 IMG_0506_edited-1

This cupcake was filled with oozey caramel and cheesecake, incase you were wondering. My very favorite cupcake I tried! The cake recipes used are PRIME. No kidding they won cupcake wars.

Did I mention Jilly’s fills all their cupcakes too? Well they do. Best decision ever!

After cupcakes, Gord gave me my Valentine’s Day present: a diamond eternity wedding band. I’ve been on the hunt for one like this for a while because I LOVE LOVE LOVE how hey look. So I mentioned it to him and voila! New ring!! I’m a little in love with it.

Valentine’s Day night…..Chinese takeout for us ๐Ÿ™‚ The chicken and chive dumplings we ordered were yum.

Pi Pizzeria on Sunday made me want to eat pizza forever more.

And the white balsamic vinaigrette on this salad is what dreams are made of.

#classic #hadto #wheninrome #imeanstlouis Ted Drewes cookie dough concrete is amazing. Have you heard of Ted Drewe’s? Well I hadn’t but then a bunch of you all told me I HAD to go, so we went and had a teeny tiny spiritual experience–> that’s how good it tasted.

Monday morning, right before I left for home, I got an amazing burger from Bailey’s Range. OMG, so so good. It’s been a while since I’ve had a real hamburger and this one hit the spot!! The white cheddar did me in. So delicious.

Anyways, even though it was a million times harder to say goodbye to my husband for a second time, it was worth the visit. I love you Gord! Thanks for being awesome and reminding me that I like being married to a real life person and not a floating head on FaceTime. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Loved ur post. We get there every couple years to watch Cardinals, free tickets thru great friend. Always looking for new places to eat. Will definitely follow up. Thanks again.

  2. Glory Gooding

Lauren, it looks like you had a fabulous Valentine weekend with your gorgeous husband. Wished I could have been there….just kidding!

  3. Carol

I live in the St. Louis area and I agree with all of the places that you visited. I especially like Pappy’s, Jilly’s and Ted Drews. St. Louis has some wonderful restaurants coupled with great customer service.

  4. Karen @ On the Banks of Salt Creek

So glad you had a great time.
Tell Gord “thank you for serving our country.” There are a lot of sacrifices.

  5. Mary Beth Elderton

What a great trip! We have lived in St Louis for a couple of years now, and still explored all these wonderful places. We LOVE Fitz soda!!! We don’t drink very much soda—it’s a big treat—but Fitz’ is made with Real Cane Sugar, not HFCS! That means that, as a treat or dessert, Fitz is really nice even for whole food lovers.

  6. Roberta Smith

i was in St. Louis the weekend before Valentine’s and had the Carmel Cheesecake Cupcake from Jilly’s too. It was incredible!!!

  7. Laurie Munson

Thanks Lauren…my husband and I are headed to St Louis in a few weeks for “Arch Madness” and we will definitely check out some of these spots!! They sound great!

Your husband’s breakfast looks like it was a herald or a horseshoe… at least that’s what we called them in Illinois growiing up. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. SaraLily

WOW! I am so jealous of your little trip! So cute that you go to do this and see you man. Fish tacos are my favorite so YUM! Hello! My boyfriend and I love eating at restaurants and trying new spots on vacation. We may be fat old people some day but we will be happy!

You hit so many of my favorite spots! I love the food in STL, so I’m glad you got to experience some good ones ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Tanya

I’ve lived in STL for several years now but always looking for new restaurants- thank you for all of your suggestions! If you ever get a chance to come back, definitely check out the Shaved Duck and Blackthorn Pub Pizza!

  12. Alanna Kellogg

Wow, you really did hit so many hot spots, great research, great tenacity — not sure how you managed so many places in just a few days!

PS Will you come back? Naturally, seeing your husband is the top-top priority but if youโ€™d like to stay an extra day, I bet the St. Louis food bloggers would be happy to put together a little gathering. Twould be fun!

PPS And Iโ€™ll echo Karen, to the both of you. โ€œThank you for your service to this country.โ€

Your photos and comments are extraordinary. We’ll be with a tour group at the Omni and will have time to sneak off to Ted Drewes. Did you go to Ted’s by taxi? If so was getting a taxi for the trip back easy? Also, liked your idea about Chinese take out. While we’ve been to St. Louis several times and my husband lived there, we found your comments full of great ideas.
    Thanks,
    Gale

My husband had his car with him that we kept at the Valet at the Omni. We took that over to Ted Drewes. Be sure to call first because not all locations were open! We ended up driving a few extra miles that we didn’t mean to!
