Pregnancy Update {weeks 16 & 17}

Lauren pregnant mirror selfieThings are getting all round up in here! And, in a good way! A lot of people have said that I still look thin and not chubby, but they are clearly looking at me from the side. I’d a lot wider than round…if that makes sense. However, at the end of my 17th week, I really feel like I’m starting to pop. This little one is seriously picking up steam and should be the size of a rather large turnip. {Thanks, babycenter.}

At 16 1/2 weeks, I ate something funny and started throwing up…that was no fun. And, that was right around Gord’s and my 5 year anniversary. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again–you know someone loves you when they will clean up your vomit. My husband is a saint.

Anyways, besides that little stint of yuckiness, I now am feeling much better! Here’s some other information I’m sure you’re dying to know.

– I think I’ve gained a total of 6 pounds…5 ounces baby, the rest in my love handles.

– I lost about 3 pounds during my whole stomach bug thing, but have probably gained it back by now.

– I gained about 50 pounds with my darling daughter, so I’m aiming for anything lower then that with this pregnancy. I’m not aiming high.

-I crave a lot of healthy things: pomegranate arils, clementines and cold V8 with a shot of tabasco and celery. The only problem with this is by the end of the day, I still feel starving like I haven’t eaten a thing all day. That’s when I get me some Sonic onion rings or cook up some tater tots.

-And, to all you haters hating on me on the facebook photo of my sonic onion rings, give me a break. You only see what I choose to post. You don’t see the bran flakes I eat for breakfast or the salad I eat for lunch because I don’t post photos of every meal I consume. Obviously I’m a grown woman and will do what is best for me and this little growing fetus I have in my belly. No need to tell me what and how to eat. Thanks but no thanks.

-Don’t get me started. Don’t even get me started. {name that quote.}

-I don’t think I’ve had any mood swings. But, you should probably ask my husband.

-These days, I’m mostly just tired which makes my patience wear thinner much quicker. My poor daughter who has to deal with her no drama mama.

-Which reminds me: Llama Llama Red Pajama is a cute book my Mom got my little one. It’s one of my all time favorites. Maybe one day I’ll post about all the kiddie books I love.

-I’ve felt itty bitty movements here and there, but nothing major…with the exception of this one afternoon where it felt like he/she was trying to escape via my appendix. Don’t really know what that was about.

-Typically, I can feel where the baby is at in utero…but sometimes, it’s like there’s nothing in there. I’ve got a phantom baby on my hands.

Lauren pregnant mirror selfieSo, that’s my exciting life in a nutshell. I have an doctor’s appointment this week and have an ultrasound on the 10th of December, so we’ll be finding out for sure what we’re having right before I go home for Christmas. {Why yes, I am flying 3000 miles east with my toddler by myself.Um, what was I thinking?} The ultrasound technician basically told me what I was having at my last ultrasound, but couldn’t say she was 100% positive, so this one will confirm.

Questions I am curious about:

How many of you had early or late babies? My first came right on her due date.

Do you know of any style/fashion blogs that have cute outfit recommendations for pregnant ladies? I don’t know what to wear besides fat pants and t-shirts.

Thanks, ya’ll!

    Hi Lauren,
I just stumbled upon your blog whilst searching for cute outfits for pregnant women on Google. Looks like this was posted some time ago, but I thought I would share what I found online here in Australia.

These guys do stylish maternity tops made out of natural fibres (which is great because I suffer from psoriasis) The natural fibres have helped me a lot (especially during the warmer months). I thought I would share it here, they have some great stuff, highly recommended.

[…] all on the car ride home from my in-laws. #Iamnotashamed. You can read my latest pregnancy update here. It’s grand. Not […]

I have never been pregnant, but you tell all those haters to shut it! So silly that people freak out over one photo. You are allowed indulgences too!

  4. Meg @ Sweet Twist

My daughter came 4 days early and fast, which was actually one just over a week ago.

I wore a lot of sweaters from Old Navy and found some great deals at destination maternity.

Have you ever checked Etsy for pregnancy clothes? I haven’t checked myself but just thought of it.

Oh you look so adorable! and boo about those folks telling how you need to eat!!! You are obviously healthy and a good cook so there are no worries!! (and yeah I ate poptarts and mountain dew with our first for over 1/2 my pregnancy… it was the only thing that I could stomach in the morning… and he has never had any health issues!) delivery dates… 36 weeks, 37 weeks, and 38 weeks. all 7.4 to 8.3 lbs ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Nikki @Pennies on a Platter

Looking great, Lauren! We have our ultrasounds the same day! Yay! I’m guessing yours is a boy this time and mine’s a girl… ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. Megan

Congrats!! You look adorable ๐Ÿ™‚ To answer your question, my 2nd baby was almost a week late (the longest week EVER!). My first was a scheduled c-section )he was breech). I’m pregnant with my third now, so I’m curious when this baby will arrive. Probably late again!
I’d love to know some good fashion blogs for pregnant ladies too. I really hate maternity clothes, I try to avoid them. I’ve been living in leggings and long shirts lately.

You look so wonderful, Lauren. And no mood swings – that’s a blessing. ๐Ÿ™‚ Can’t wait to know the sex gender.

  9. Alaina @ Fabtastic Eats

My first came right on his due date too..I wouldn’t mind if this one came right when hes due too!
P.s. you look fab..don’t listen to the haters. I gained 60 pounds with my first…as long as I keep it under that this time, Ill feel good ๐Ÿ˜› (It may be hard with all the cookies and treats this time of year!)

  10. Erin

Just go to F21 and get some long shirts and leggings. Super cute with boots. And maxi dresses. I was due in May w my last one and I lived in maxi dresses. Thank me later ๐Ÿ™‚
And yay for Sonic onion rings!

  11. Rachel @ The Avid Appetite

    You are adorable!!

I’ve found great stuff at Loft Maternity. Not all that inexpensive, but honestly, totally worth it to feel and look great! Plus they always have sales. I also invested in 2 skinny jeans and 3 skinny colored jean/pants that have been awesome and at least I feel like I’m semi-in fashion while pregnant ๐Ÿ™‚ I also bought some cute statement necklaces that dress up even plain long sleeve shirts (Gap has great long sleeve shirts that still cover my bump at 30+ weeks – and they aren’t even maternity shirts!).

My babies liked to stay put….so they were around 8 days late…..not so much fun. Sounds like your pregnancy is ticking along just fine. So sad that people feel like they ca tell you what to eat and such….Stinkers. Enjoy your time and your onion rings. I once tried to convince a man to give me his cheese at the grocery counter….my husband thought I was CRAZY! Love cravings!! Take care.

  13. Steph

Oh my gosh! You look great!! I’m 22 weeks now and am really starting to feel the belly grow! I’ve been obsessed with tights and big sweaters right now, so cozy!

  14. Deborah

I love pregnancy updates!! I gained 50 lbs. with Camden – but I’m convinced I gain a lot of water weight. At 9 days, I had already lost 25. Is it bad for me to hope that the second half comes off as fast?? ๐Ÿ™‚

Can’t wait to hear if the little one is a boy or a girl!!

  15. Michelle Pelletier

I love, love, love that you’re posting pregnancy updates. Being pregnant was one of the mist memorable and most fun things I have done in my entire life. I’ve been getting the baby urge the last few months so your blog is just what I need to stave off those urges. Haha. So my two kids and my husband thank you too!!!

Also, I craved Sonic hash browns with my son. They are seriously laced with something. Hahaha.

Can’t wait to possibly read about the cute things your little girl has to say about your bun in the oven. My oldest was so silly the whole 9 months.

  16. Val

Glad you’re feeling well – being pregnant while caring for a toddler is no easy task!

You asked about how many of us had early or late babies – well, I’ve never made it to a due date yet. My son was a week early (technically he was full-term so it was cool), my first daughter was 7 weeks early (almost 9 weeks but the docs managed to halt labour for a couple weeks), and my second daughter was born 10 days before her due date. The last month is super hard because you’re tired and sick of beiing pregnant and just want to hold your little one…I was always glad to have it cut short instead of going past my date.

  17. Marjory Betchkal

Lauren, you can eat what you want to. You are right, nevermind those haters because onion rings are a vegetable!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I enjoy all your posts and will love watching the pregnancy via your blog. Have a wonderful day.

  18. Kellie

My son will be 28 in March…I don’t remember what my due date was. Too many years have gone by since then and my memory is horrible LOL.

Thought that might help give you some ideas! Seems like leggings, dresses, and stretchy pants are the way to go! ๐Ÿ™‚
