So, can you believe I’m only a few weeks away from getting this alien out of me? The way he moves/pushes my organs around, you’d think he’s an alien. Forreals.
Anyways, not a whole lot to report on this bebe. He’s growing, this I know. Allegedly, he’s 5+ pounds which explains why I feel huge and have a heavy feeling ‘down yonder’ if you know what I mean 😉 He’s still up in my lungs, so I know he hasn’t dropped yet. When he does, that’s gonna be interesting slash painful.
My belly measurements are right on for delivering April 29th. That day is coming up QUICK! I almost can’t believe it…but I can. Time flies when you’re renovating your kitchen writing an ecookbook growing a child!
Some noteworthy things happening:
-I have had a really bad cough for the last 8 days or so. I want to slit my throat that’s how bad it is. Cough drops don’t help. Honey doesn’t help. Robitussin doesn’t help. Vicks Vapo Rub on my chest and feet doesn’t help. I really don’t have any options left. Just suck it up and deal. UGH.
-I’ve self diagnosed myself with symphysis pubic dysfunction–basically, I get these shooting pains in my inner thighs when I switch from lying on one side to the other side at night. The worst is when I’m getting up from bed in the morning. This combined with my coughing makes me a real treat to wake up to. Right Gordon?! Haha. Apparently, this is a totally normal and common thing for ladies to have during pregnancy. It’ll go away after the baby comes out. Yippee!
-My husband is taking 2 weeks off for his Paternity leave after the baby comes. I’m so excited 🙂 Some people I talk to don’t particularly care if their husbands are home or not but I am not one of those people! If my husband could get paid to stay home, we’d totally do that! We love spending time together. After I had Brooke, he was still working AND going to school, so I was pretty much left on my own. I’m so glad he’ll have this time with us!
-My Mom is coming for 2 1/2 weeks in May to cook me lots of yummy meals, clean my house, help with the new baby and play with Brooke! We are so excited. My Dad is coming for one of those weeks too 🙂 I love my family!
-I’m trying my hardest to get the baby’s room finished but it’s tricky when I start involving other people….like my husband {meaning–he needs to knock down a wall to expand the closet before it can officially be finished. I’m hoping this little dude will be right on time so we can actually have a month to finish everything we need to!
-Did I mention all my kitchen stuff gets here a week before I’m due? AND, it’s all getting installed in the last 5 days up until my due date? YEAH. Talk about serious deadlines!! LOL! At least my husband will be on paternity leave to help out as needed 🙂 Either way, I’m getting a new kitchen and new baby by the end of April!
-Overall I’ve gained 25 pounds thus far. It’s all in my belly and thighs. Still much less than my first pregnancy, so I’m hoping this weight will come off easily! I fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans 3 weeks after giving birth to my daughter. Maybe I’ll get lucky and things will go just as smoothly?!
-What can I do to get rid of this cough? I cannot think of anything else!
-How many of you think I’ll go into labor before I can get my kitchen done? Watch I’m a week late! LOL! OR, maybe I’ll have this little guy right on my due date just like my first pregnancy! Time will only tell!
-What are the best nursing bras? And do you all go so far to get nursing tanks and stuff too? I didn’t have any the first time around and everything worked out just swimmingly.
-How far in advance did you pack your hospital bag? I might wait a week or two and then get one together.

The only thing that has really ever helped me with a cough like that is gargling with salt. Terrible at first but you get used to it. It eases throoat pain like nothing else and although it won’t cure a cold, it will stop the kind of cough that irritates your throat and makes you cough even more, which makes your cough last forever. Sounds like what you might have? My last cough I had like this I gargled twice a day and it ended the perpetual cycle much sooner than the last cough when I refused to try it.
Plus it’s safe for baby!
Ok…I may be a little late to the party here, but I SWEAR by the Throat Comfort tea by Yogi brand teas. It quiets coughing (for me) and relieves the throat irritation. I have been using it for years. It’s the best thing EVER!
I had my first (a girl) last July – you are so lucky to be avoiding the heat of summer for the final weeks! I had my hospital bag packed at 37 weeks. Two girlfriends had delivered early at 37 wks just a few months before me – so I wanted to be prepared. Ended up having to be induced at 42 weeks though! For maternity bras I like A Pea in a Pod – the stretchy kind of sporty ones that clip down. I didn’t get the tanks, but I did get two nightgowns since it was summer – I ended up living in them for two months! This winter I cut the boobs out of a lot of my tank tops so that I could lift up my shirt, have access to the nursing bra, but still have my tummy covered so I don’t get cold. I’ll have to buy some new tanks when I stop nursing. I’ve heard good things about the cool nursing bras from the shop TOMgirlApparel on etsy… might want to check that out. Good luck!
Happy thoughts to you so that you can get rid of your cough! I had a cold when I had Camden and was so stuffed up can couldn’t breathe. They put me on one of those oxygen breather things at the hospital to help, but it wasn’t very pretty. 🙂
And I was ready for Cam to come early and he was 6 days late. I so wish there was a way to predict better!!!
Aw, such a beautiful bump you’re sporting 🙂 so exciting
Urgh nothing worse than a cough because it keeps you awake and sleep only makes it worse. 🙁 we have a wonderful cough medicine in the uk that I swear by, it’s like a licourice flavour syrup. It’s sooo lovely your husband is able to have a few weeks off with you. We get 2 weeks paid paternity and 6/12 months paid maternity in the uk as standard, it always facinates me the differences between countries. Also, I’d pack your bag now. Baby can come any time now. 🙂
Nothing but time has ever really made a cough heal for me. Cough drops can help, as can icy water or hot tea, and I use nasal spray if that’s a factor, but otherwise you just have to wait it out. Oh yeah, you could try putting a humidifier beside your bed at night. Sometimes that can help with a cough.
Nursing bras – I just got a bunch of cheap cotton bras on ebay. I’ve always been very small in the boob department so I didn’t need anything too fancy; my only two concerns were comfort and washability because my kids were messy eaters and I leaked like nobody’s business (seriously, it got to the point where I’d end up tucking a receiving blanket into the bottom of my bra under my boob so I wouldn’t get soaked!). Plus I was too cheap to shell out a lot of money on something fancier. I never bothered with nursing tops because I felt way too self-conscious out in public in a tee-shirt with a peekaboo flap…I may as well have had “hey I breastfeed all the time! look here! look!” across my bust. I just wore regular shirts and carried blankets so I could drape it over that shoulder and down the side of my torso for a bit of privacy.
As for your symphysis pubis dysfunction, I know your pain! I was never diagnosed but I had a lot of pain just like that through my last pregnancy. It sucks. It’s a miserable way to start the day when you can’t really roll over or lift your legs off the edge of the bed. But it will get better after the birth. It’s a good idea to do pelvic floor exercises postpartum, and I found that other exercise made it better too. Take it slowly though so you don’t hurt it worse! Something gentle like swimming or walking will do you a lot of good. : )
For your cough, try warm water with honey, lemon juice in water, or OJ. Plus sip on soup and suck on some lozenges! Due Maternity has a nice selection of nursing bras! http://www.duematernity.com/nursing-bras.html
8 months pregnant is a great time to get some of your items together for the hospital! Better to be safe then scrambling at the last second. You look great! Happy Easter!
Ok, I have to admit I packed my bag early (like week 35) and was I ever glad!! 3 boys… 1st at 36 weeks + 1 day, 2nd at 37 weeks (water broke with no contractions, contractions started 30 minutes later, born exactly 1 hr later… 45 minutes after we walked in the hospital door, 5 minutes after they checked me for the 1st time… everything was full as it was a full moon & a storm was coming in!), and 3rd child born at 38 weeks.
YOu look so lovely!! You will do great!!!
I’m Loving My Motherhood Maternity Nursing Bras. I Might Go Get More!Hot Water With Lemon And Honey Has Helped My Throat N Cough. That And Hot Showers. I Think You’re Going To Be Early. I’m thinking By The 18Th. I Can’t Wait To Meet You Little Dude! 🙂
You are so close!! I am so excited for you!! PS. you are glowing!
Almost there!! I had that pubic symphysis problem as well. SUCKED. It helped having my husband work on me every week. Find a chiro! He also told me to do squats, which I never did. It’s supposed to help, though. I’m about as excited to see your little bundle as I am to see your kitchen. Haha. Good luck in the next few weeks!
I bought a nursing tank with my second, but it was still too low in the front and not long enough. But I’m tall. BUT order yourself some Half Tees. Best thing ever. So easy for nursing. I like the real Half Tees and not the ones from Shade….just saying. Get the ones with modal in the fabric mix. I bought a sleep bra from Kohls. Love it. And just a regular nursing bra from Target.
I did pack my bag with my third one….and I didn’t use half the stuff I took!
You will go into labor the night your kitchen is finished. Mark my words 🙂
Looking cute like always! 🙂 So sorry about the cough though. You know what’s helped me on the past? It’s gross but did wonders. A quarter cup hot apple cider vinegar with a lil honey mixed in. Try it!! Get better fast!
So excited for you, and you look adorable. 🙂 Congrats! I have no answers for any of your questions, but I hope you feel better soon!
One teaspoon of cinnamon mixed thoroughly with one Tablespoon of honey. This can be stirred into a cup of your favorite herbal tea. Do this several times daily as you are resting. Both honey and cinnamon are really good antibiotics. There has been a *very nasty* bug going around. My husband ended up with pneumonia and I had very serious bronchitis and was put on antibiotics. We both are much better now.
You and baby are doing amazing! One more month and you will be holding this sweet child in your brand-new completed kitchen enjoying all the fruits of your labors. 🙂
What really helps is tea from licorice root. However, I am not sure if you actually have that in America. In Germany you can get it at the pharmacy. I wouldn’t call it.. tasty – but it does its job!
I’m so excited for you, I hope everything will go smoothly.
My mom swears by chocolate to ease a cough. Sounds weird and I can’t say I’ve tried it, but she says it coats the throat and stops the coughing. Plus it’s chocolate! Who could say no? Try it for science!
You look amazing. soo close to being done!!! try 1tbls of honey, 1/8ts cayanne, 2 tblsp lemon juice in a cup of hot water… hope it helps.
Have you tried a cool mist humidifier? Whenever I get a cough I sleep with one pointed straight at my face and it usually help A LOT!!!
I can tell you that I decided to wait until my water broke to pack my bags with my fourth child….the idea was that I could spend “early labor” focusing on something other than a hospital bed and move things along a little faster in the nether regions…..lol
Well, things didn’t exactly go as planned. My water broke (I was a week overdue) and I called the hospital to let them know. As I started to pack my bags the baby started coming. Water broke at 11pm and she arrived at 12:15am.
I guess what I’m saying is ….baby is probably not going to pay attention to your “plan” as you probably already know from baby #1. So pack your bag now because they are all different. All 4 of mine were very different. M
The cough might be reflux. You can ask your doctor if you can try an antacid like zantac (I know lots of pregnant women who have used antacids) and see if it helps. I have had reflux withtout the heartburn and especially had it when I was pregnant.
The 29th is a great birthday and I would be happy to share! Hope everything falls into place and you get to enjoy the new kitchen. Best of luck!!
In Austria,we use “Zwiebelsaft” or Onion-Sirup as a home Remedy against coughing! Chop up 1 or 2 onions and put it into a jar,mix with Sugar, put a lid in the jar and shake well! After a few hours you should have some Sirup, just take a spoonfull of it when needed! Get well soon 🙂
I assume you’ve tried Halls and all the other normal cough drop brands…but have you tried Sucrets? They have some ingredient in them that actually numbs the back of your throat, they are MAGICAL. You should of course check out the ingredients though and make sure everything is okay for baby 🙂 Good luck!
You are gorgeous!! Home stretch!
