Pregnancy Update {weeks 37+}

I’m much bigger in real life! Black is slimming….

Well, shalom friends.

I think it’s safe to say that this will be the last Pregnancy Update I do before I switch over to doing baby updates!! At least, I really really hope this is the last pregnancy update I will have to do before the baby comes. I keep wishing and hoping that this baby will be early, but the first two weren’t so why would this one be any different? I’m not counting on it. Here’s the latest and greatest.

How have you been feeling?

Right now, I am about 8 days away from my due date {not that I’m counting or anything} and am feeling….alright?! Not bad but not good either. Quite tired, but that might be because I stay up late doing work and/or happen to have contractions into the night. Saturday night, I had lots of nausea and was up until 1 am having contractions but of course, just like Blake’s pregnancy, nothing came of it and I was able to fall asleep, just in time to get barely enough rest to be borderline exhausted for the entire next day. I will notice contractions here and there, some painful and some not but still nothing to write home about. It’s NOT the real deal and I’m more annoyed than anything with these stupid contractions. I know it’s my body’s way of preparing for labor, but I’m so done with it all. Just get this baby outta me!!

Also, my round ligament pain is getting worse and worse. The heavier the baby gets, the more painful it becomes. It’s the worst getting into the car, getting up from sitting or lying down and especially awful when I feel the weight of my legs when I roll from side to side.  There’s nothing I can do about it to fix or correct it except have the baby, so that is just one more reason to get this baby into my arms!

Weight Gain?

I don’t know and I don’t care. I’m so tired and sick of being pregnant that I don’t really pay attention to the number they take at every weekly appointment. I think I’m at about 35 pounds?! I know I didn’t gain any weight in the last few weeks, so maybe I’ll hold steady at 35? Again, don’t really care at this point. My doctor is happy with the healthy body I have and with the healthy body I happen to be growing.

Exercise? Yay or Nay?

I’ve decided to stop exercising because it’s making my round ligament pain more severe. Before, it was alright and totally manageable, but now?! I want to freaking kill myself after 30 minutes on the elliptical. Not to mention, I’m trying to conserve my energy to just live. I’m too tired to go to the gym these days. I just want to rest. By the weekend, however, I will start walking and hope to goodness that labor kicks into gear 🙂 That’s what got me into labor with Brooke and Blake, so here’s to hoping it’s the same!

How are you sleeping?

Well, after the contractions go away and I’m able to get comfortable, I sleep really well. Sometimes I’ll get pain in my rib cage, so I just readjust and it’s fine. I’m really looking forward to being able to sleep on my stomach again.

Not really. One time last week I wanted garlic bread but couldn’t find any at 10pm so I tried those new mozzarella sticks from McDonalds. They kinda-sorta hit the spot. Not really though. I still could go for some really good garlic bread {but, couldn’t we all?}

Baby Movements?

Yes, he’s still moving all around in my tummy, albeit not as much as he once used to. There is only so much room for this little dude. Still getting my count kicks in. He’s most active between 10pm and midnight. Rascal!

Other Miscellaneous Thoughts?

When I went to my last doctor’s appointment, I was 75% effaced and was dilated to 2 cm. But this basically means nothing to me because with Brooke and Blake, I was at 3 cm for the last 3 weeks of my pregnancy! My body just likes to get ready and then hang out waiting for that due date. I wouldn’t be surprised if that is exactly what happened this time.

Also, we have the nursery just about complete so here’s to hoping I can snap a few photos and get them posted before I have this little nugget. Lots of fun new baby items to talk about!

WE HAVE A NAME! It’s a family name that doesn’t start with a B 🙂 Kind of old school, but whatevs.

I have my to do list for the last few things I want to get done around the house this week and also made a big Costco trip to stock up on fruits, veggies and  ready-made meals. I even cleaned out my fridge this past weekend too! Nesting is REAL, folks. And talk about peace of mind just having a fridge full of dinners.

My Mom will be here next Tuesday…one day before my due date 🙂 Hopefully I’m not in the hospital giving birth right then. Time will tell!

Questions for you!

Hypothetically speaking, how would one induce herself to make a baby come before her due date? I’m asking for a friend.

If you’ve had a baby, was he/she early, on time or late? I feel like I’m in the minority with my track record of two babies birthed both on their due dates. What are the odds I have this baby on his due date too? That would be NUTS. Probably should have bought that powerball ticket?

I’ll probably be posting photos to social media of the baby once he makes his debut; most likely on snapchat first. Find me @laurenslatest or on Instagram, though it’ll probably be a few hours/a day later.

My 2 girls were born on their due dates. My firstborn, a son, was induced 3 weeks early because I was at 2cm at a checkup. Never understood that, but he was my first. Good luck with your new sweet baby x

My doctor strip my membrane on a Thursday, my youngest was born that Saturday at 37 weeks and weighing in a 7lbs. Both my kids were big and with the first I ended having an emergency c section due toher size and iI didn’t want another section.

I’ve heard Evening Primrose Oil capsules help with softening the cervix. I take it to help with my periods and they have been much easier and my skin texture is better. If you can go for a drive/walk up and down hills, I know a doula who used to take women on drives up a mountain a bit. She said the elevation change can put you into labor. Also… Lots of sex if you can manage it. ? My son was early… Preemie early. My water broke 5 years ago today at 31 weeks. I was in the hospital with my water broken until 34 weeks when he came via emergency c-section. So I only know what people have told me!

Late, way late and on her due date. Hiking, playing badminton ( that was funny) and I lost my mucus plug so I was induced. Enjoy everything. Now and after because there is a huge difference between 2 and 3. You are outnumbered.

Oddly enough pepperoni pizza was the last meal I ate before each of our boys were born…. 36 weeks 1 day, 37 weeks 3 days, and 38 weeks with weights of 7 lbs 6 oz, 8 lb 3 oz, and 7 lbs 6 oz. I was having contractions regularly with the middle boy and at 4 cm by 35 weeks. My doctor was concerned as it was a military hospital that was not certified to deliver earlier than 36 weeks… all contractions stopped cold at 36 weeks. 10 days later we ate Pizza Hut pepperoni pizza for a late dinner and bam! Who knows maybe there is something to it. 🙂

A friend recently tried castor oil – her baby ended up being dehydrated when it was born because of it and had a few additional nights in the hospital! EEK! Another friend SWEARS by the Spicy Chicken Sandwich at Chick-Fil-A -it worked with her 2 daughters.

Lots of walking during those counting the centimeter days, but (this might sound crazy) it was the good ole Colonel…KFC. Yummy at the same time! Good luck!

I never see updates from you on Snapchat! I followed one of the first times you mentioned it, but I haven’t seen anything yet. Are your settings set so everyone can view your story/send you snaps? Don’t want to miss out 😀

    I recommend you try this:

With my pregnancies I had a fantastic Midwife who also worked with a terrific OB/GYN. My midwife was very much into all natural remedies for all kinds of health matters–starting labor naturally included. For 3 of my 4 pregnancies she had me use Red Raspberry Leaf (capsules–you can get at your local GNC or any vitamin store–take as directed–starting 2-3 weeks before your due date). This is to promote a healthy, fast & productive labor and delivery.

She also had me take Evening Primrose Oil (also in capsule form–take as directed on bottle starting 2-3 weeks before your due date) and this is suppose to bring on labor. It takes a bit to get into your system, which is why they say start about 2-3 weeks before your due date, and it also makes labor & delivery move along faster and help your body go thru the laboring stages much easier. When I took this, I went into labor that same night. It definitely works for most women–but not all. Fingers crossed it works for you! It does say “do not take if you are pregnant” on the bottle because it is a natural labor inducing remedy. However, in this case, you WANT labor to start, so it is a good thing. :0)

Both vitamins are super safe for both mom and baby! Both of these vitamins are to be taken together (not one or the other). It worked like a dream for all 3 of my pregnancies/labors/and deliveries. It’s helped me and several of my family & friends who have gone through labor & delivery. I swear by it! Be sure to get the highest strength available for both vitamins if you do decide to do this. Also, they offer a Red Raspberry Leaf Tea, it’s nasty, and causes severe heartburn–just use the capsules. ;0)

Anyhow, I just wanted to pass on some really helpful info that worked for me and I hope you try it and it works for you. Feel free to check with your OB/GYN if you’re more comfortable getting a second opinion. :0)

    Good Luck!

I was induced 1 week later than due date for my 1st born and I was to be induced 1 week post due-date for my second son. However, I went to swim class with my 1st born the day before going in to have the baby and moved around the pool with him in a frog-like position (water level is lower for toddler classes – to keep warm, you have to bend your legs to get up to your shoulders in the water – frog-like!) I did the whole hour like this and surprise! My contractions started that same afternoon (I hadn`t even had false contractions, never mind real ones up to then) and the baby showed up that same night. The position pushes the baby down naturally (and water keeps you light and keeps the movement painless!!). At the last doctor appointment before I was scheduled to be induced, I was not effaced nor dilated… This might be a good idea for you. Anyway – Good luck ! May this be a first for an early baby for you! 🙂

So not only do I have 3 babies born at 40 weeks, two were spot on their due date! My middle child was a few days off but still “right on time” as far as I am concerned. My body did the same Lots-of-early-labor-with-no-real-action thing too. When it was really go time though it happened FAST. I also happen to have a daughter name Brooke!
My midwives told me to “squat” and rock on a large exercise ball. It wasn’t always the most comfortable. I felt lots of pressure, but that pressure is what I was told would help progress things naturally. I will say every time I did the exercise I began to lose pieces of plug and have small contractions.
It seemed that labor started in the night where I stopped thinking about it. We had guests over for dinner and board games etc. I would relax and then *BAM* baby time lol!
Best Wishes for your growing family right now! XO!

I was a week late. The due date came and went like any other day of my pregnancy. Nothing happened until it happened. I was so ready to get the baby out. I remember going to each appointment at the end hoping for them to tell me I was dilated the least bit but nothing.

  13. Marilyn Wigen

Late and even later for my two. First pregnancy was twins which “always come early”… except when they come a week late, and even then one baby’s lungs weren’t developed enough for him to survive. With my second, since I had to have a Caesarian, I had amniocentesis three times over the course of about 4 weeks to check if her lungs were developed enough and my baby whose due date was 24 July, finally made her appearance on 11 August! My OB said I was probably just a slow-cooker! ? Best of luck to you…

  14. Pat

I had a girl and two boys: Benay, Blake and then Matthew. We also went with a family name. You look very slim in your picture. LOL. Can’t wait to see pictures of you holding your darling boy!

  15. Tara

My first was five weeks early, my second I had to be induced one day after my due date after preterm labor and bedrest, go figure. The third came five days early, and attribute that to bouncing on an exercise ball and using my pump early 😉 That was also the only time my water broke on it’s own.

  16. Erin

I had my first two on their due dates and the last was 2 weeks early (I was at 5cm for a week…seriously thought he was going to fall out). I’m pulling for this baby to be early for you!!! I feel like I’m reading my diary from a little over a year ago. Ligament pain…check. Hate being pregnant…check! Baby boy with a B name…check! Hope the last couple of weeks go smoothly!!!

  17. Kendra

Gave birth 5 months ago. I was 2 days past delivery date. I asked my ob and she said to use a breast pump or have sex. I did neither. I went home and googled pressure points for labor. Pushed on those points on and off for about 5 hours. Started contractions and gave birth within 3 hours. Almost had her in the car because I couldn’t believe it was really happening!

  18. Dana

Black cohosh and blue cohosh root, they are in the vitamin area of any store. One dilates you and the other will help you completely efface. I went into labor in day two while walking around. I didn’t even push, she came out on her own. My total labor was 4 hours.

  19. donna Brennan

Well considering I had one 2 weeks early, one 2 weeks late and one on the due date!! It’s basically a crap shoot. However looking at how big your tummy is and how low the baby it—come on now!!

  20. Aimee @ like mother like daughter

My son was born 6 says late, and we had to go in to be induced, but then I didn’t need to be induced. So I’m no help on getting them out early. Hope he comes beautiful and healthy 🙂 (and soon )

  21. Erin Raatjes

For the round ligament pain – does it hurt to roll over too? I found if I moved with my legs together (as if banded together) it was a tiny bit less painful. So sorry you are dealing with that – it’s awful.

  22. Danielle

I used castor oil and it worked three out of four times. I mixed a couple tablespoons worth into a milkshake (in an effort to hide the oil but I suggest choosing a shake flavor that you can stomach but don’t if you ever drink again!). It may have a laxitive effect though so just be aware if you decide to go this route. Good luck and God bless!!
