Thai Chicken Bites | In Less Than 20 Minutes
When I had semesters off during college, I used to be a server at a restaurant called Boston Pizza. Ever heard of them? They made awesome cobb salads, incredible breaded chicken wings, amazing pizza {….obviously} and delicious Thai Chicken Bites.
Then when I was at the store the other day, I spotted some sweet chili sauce and it immediately made me think of this dish. So, I picked up a bottle and made a homemade version. SO glad I did. These are crispy, salty and sweet nuggets of heaven. And they’re pretty easy to make too. We ate ours for dinner, but these are great as snacks or appetizers.
Main Ingredients Needed
If you take a look at the ingredients list, the only thing you probably won’t have in your pantry is this sweet chili sauce. I found it on the shelves in my small town grocery store so you should be able to find it in yours! Here’s everything you’ll need to make Thai Chicken Bites:
- Chicken Breast – boneless & skinless! You could also make this recipe with shrimp.
- Flour, Garlic Powder, Salt + Pepper – dry ingredients used to coat the chicken as a breading.
- Egg + Milk – wet ingredients used to bread the chicken.
- Canola Oil – for frying! You can also use peanut oil!
- Sweet Chili Sauce – for the perfect amount of sweet and heat. Look for something like this.
- Carrots + Cilantro – both are used for garnish! I personally really like these with the chicken bites but you can always leave them out.
How To Make Thai Chicken Bites | Directions
First, you’re going to want to coat the chicken pieces in flour and egg and then pan-fry until crispy. Pan-frying is like deep frying but healthier. Or at least that’s what I tell myself. After the chicken is crispy, coat it in the sweet chili sauce and serve. Pretty quick and painless, no? For full details on how to make Thai Chicken Bites, see the recipe card down below 🙂
Step 1: Preheat Oil
Pour 1-2 inches of oil into a deep skillet. Preheat over medium heat.
Step 2: Prep Ingredients
Cut chicken into bite-sized pieces and set aside.
In a shallow dish, stir together flour, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. In another shallow dish, whisk egg, milk, salt and pepper together.
Step 3: Dredge + Coat
Toss chicken pieces into dry mixture first, then into the egg mixture, and back to the dry. Make sure you coat the chicken completely during each step!
Step 4: Cook + Drain Chicken
Place chicken pieces into hot oil and fry until golden brown on each side. (About 3-4 minutes per side.) Remove and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with salt.
Step 5: Toss, Garnish + Serve
Transfer to a large bowl and toss with sweet chili sauce. Divide into two equal portions and top with carrot and cilantro. Serve.
Storing Thai Chicken Bites
Store any leftover Thai Chicken Bites in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 4-5 days. To reheat, place in microwave or air fryer for 1-2 minutes.

Help! trying to print the eggs and the shrooms and the thai chicken bites but there isn’t anything there when I click to print!!!
These are sooooo good! These reminded me of sweet and sour chicken with a nice kick. They would be great served with rice and some steamed or stir-fried sweet peppers and fresh pineapple. Maggi sells a sweet Thai chili sauce without MSG, so that’s what I used. YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks so much for the recipe.
I’m going to make it on Sunday! Love the ingredients and it looks so easy to make!

Mae Ploy is my favorite sauce. We had coconut shrimp at Pappadeaux’s restaurant and fell in love with the red sauce they serve with it. I asked for the recipe and the server brought out the bottle. I now make coconut shrimp at home with this sauce. I found it at my local Kroger store. I then found it on Amazon cheaper. I realize this is a post of your blog from 2011, but it just showed up on my FB news feed. I use quite a few of your recipes.
This was yummy! !!
