Lauren and the two boys

Here’s what happened this past week:

Brooke had a playdate with a friend this week! She has SO many friends and is always bugging me about having them all come over so I was happy to oblige 🙂 I have been happily surprised at the number of sweet friends she has made at school and at church. My sweet girl is blooming and thriving here!

Speaking of Brooke, I took her back to the dentist this week for some sealants for her teeth. It was a quick process and so easy because the boys were in school. I have to make an orthodontist appointment for her soon because the world of braces is coming at us whether we like it or not!

Gordon was able to work from home one day this week which was totally random but so amazing to have him home! We ran out for lunch and had pizza with Eddie at one of the new pizza shops around the corner. I think pizza tastes better at lunch with your husband and only one kid. 😉 Haha!

This past week I made a couple of loaves of homemade bread! A little slice of heaven on earth. This no sugar/desserts thing was particularly challenging this week, so having a slice of warm, fresh bread with a little butter was a real treat!

Blake stayed home from school on Friday. Poor boy was sick with a fever and a cough. The cough had been lingering a few days before, but not enough to bother him or wake him up in the night. Friday morning things took a turn and the fever hit, so we kept him home, much to Eddie’s delight. Friday night to Saturday, we just ended up having him sleep on the couch so we could talk to him and monitor him a little better without waking his siblings. Gordon was up with him from 2-4am and then left for work right at 4. I was up with him the rest of the morning.

Saturday morning while Gordon was at work, I took the kids out to run a million errands including but not limited to: the drug store to find waaaay better cough medicine and cough drops, the bank, Trader Joes and Starbucks for hot chocolate. We were gone nearly 3 hours and holy moly were the lines long everywhere, but happy to accomplish things with all three kids in tow. When hot chocolate is on the line, they just become a million times more helpful. Funny how that works.

Saturday late afternoon, Gordon got home from his shift and took a nap with Eddie while I took the older two out to the Library so they could rest in peace. Our apartment is small and we are loud people, so we thought it was best that I just take the older two out for a few hours.

Sunday was cold and we ended up taking a cab to church because we didn’t want to wait another minute outside for the bus.

Monday was even colder than Sunday (like 7 degrees out. SEVEN!!) and because it was MLK day, Gordon surprisingly had it off! Happy day! So we took the kids to the Natural History Museum for an imax movie and then went to shake shack for lunch. We got home and hunkered down for the rest of the day playing words with friends (our newest obsession).

This past week on the blog, I posted some low carb recipes, buttercream frosting and a vanilla cake recipe. Hope you didn’t miss any of them!

Here’s what is coming up this next week:

I can’t believe Eddie will be THREE in only a few days! And, I also can’t believe how far he’s come. Thankful for and proud of my littlest boy! Have to pick up a few small gifts for him.

I have a few conference calls for work.

Hoping to find an orthodontist that takes our insurance and get in for a consultation for Brooke. The pediatric dentist said she probably needs a palate expander and then braces. Eek!

Also, a few more recipes are going to get tested this week too! Follow along on my instastories if you feel so inclined.

Have a great week, friends!

I hope Blake is feeling better each day and the bug avoids the rest of your family! Love your updates weekly, thank you for the recipes as well as the hours it takes

I am loving Eddie’s new haircut. He looks so much older.I hope Blake is feeling better. Good luck with Brooke with the braces. Did you end up seeing the new Mary Poppins? Don’t you love it when something as simple as hot chocolate can propel kids into behaving better. That cold was the worst on Sunday/ Monday. Have a great rest of your week.

Check ZocDoc for finding a doctor that accepts your insurance for Brooke! The reviews have also helped me find providers that work with my insurance!

I feel badly for Blake, coughs are the worse and no over the counter inhibertor works it seems. Hope he is better soon.
January seems to be the beginning of our “ real” winter, coldest and snow everyday, seeming to last forever.
Thanks for the recipes, stay well.

I come to your blog for the recipes, but stick around for the family updates. I am encouraged to hang in there with managing my own family and job by watching you. Great job!
