We’ve been traveling a lot, having fun with family this past week!
Here’s what happened:
Well, last Sunday I sneakily traveled to Canada with my kids and stayed with a family friend for the night because the next day, we were surprising my Mom! Last Monday was her last day of work because she is retiring and all my siblings came home to surprise her. It took months of planning because there are 6 of us and we live all over and have our own lives, but we were able to make it work! My Dad took my Mom for a nice dinner downtown and then we surprised her when she got home 🙂 She shrieked and was suuuper confused for a hot second before it all came together. Mwahahaha!
She was completely surprised and couldn’t believe we were all together again (except for Gordon who is still at training….stupid training!!) The last time everyone was together was when I was pregnant with Blake in November of 2012. Sooo, it’s been a while.
The week has been filled with lots of cousin time, Grandma and Grandpa time and even some camping…another surprise for my Mom!! We all went up to Algonquin Park (in Ontario) and hung out at the beach, on canoes, on hikes and around the campfire.
Eddie has been having a hard time when I’m NOT around and screams if anyone else holds him, so that’s been making my life super easy. Even when Gordon comes home on the weekends, Eddie prefers me. I’m over it and ready for him to cling to anyone but me, but that’s not happening anytime soon. I think Gordon being away at training is a big reason for his attachment…he’s had no one else to attach to! But, the nice thing is once I leave the room and he calms down, he is totally fine! But once he sees me again, its game over and all.the.tears start flowing. Ah, motherhood.
Blake has also had quite the high fever this week and woke up at 2:30 this morning throwing up. So, I’m trying to quarantine him from the other cousins, though one of them is fading fast. Oops!! Stomach bugs are the literal worst things in the world.
Oh course, Brooke is just bopping along in life, LOVING all the time she gets to spend with her girl cousins. She loved the beach, swimming, MarioKart time and reading time with Grandma. Man, I’m so glad that we live 7 1/2 hours away now!
We also have a date when Gordon will be back in New York, like completely done training! Say whaaaat? Hello November!! It’s quite a ways off, but every day is one day closer to the end of this awful-horrible-exciting-hard-dream fulfilling-great-but-not-really year. I’m ready for 2017 to be over.
Oh, and did I mention Eddie likes to wake up at 5:30am every morning? Sometimes I get lucky and he’s up at 4:30. (SO EARLY!) He also occasionally will sleep in until 6:45 and I feel like a new woman.
I’m so completely confused by his sleep schedule. I’m not sure you could call it a schedule because he’s always unpredictable, but I try. Haha!
Coming up this week:
We drive back to New York. I’m definitely not looking forward to that Manhattan traffic again. But, I will say that I can’t wait to get home to our apartment. It’s starting to feel like home to me and that is a very good thing.
Also, Gordon is coming home this weekend!! We’ve missed seeing him since being here visiting my parents without him. But, I do like being busy here because it takes my mind off missing him.
And this week I’m getting serious about finding a part time summer nanny for my kids because mama needs a break.
If I’m feeling brave, I’ll be transferring Eddie to his big boy bed from his pack-n-play!! Ahh!! So nuts.
Happy to hear the apartment is starting to feel like home! Wishing you luck with Eddie–sleeping, clinging, transfer to a new bed…
Mmmmmmm Nanaimo bar!
