So much good happened this week! We are staying busy for sure…story of our lives!
Here’s what happened this week:
I HIRED A NANNY! She’s only part time (18 hours/week) but it is so wonderful! I can sit down quietly at my desk, close the door and work. I love writing everything out in big long to-do lists and then crossing everything off. Its the best. I still sometimes work into the night because no husband, but that’s ok! I feel my sanity slowly returning.
I took my kids to Chelsea Market this week to see the different food stores and options and get some yummy doughnuts. I did not have enough hands to hold my kids high enough to see the doughnuts being made at the Doughnuttery. More details below on that. I must must must go back to Chelsea Market on my own to browse and take it all in. Plus Anthropologie is there! I love looking at all their stuff.
I don’t have any pictures of Brooke to share, but she got a hair cut this week! It’s right to her chin, just where she likes it. That girl HATES getting knots in her hair and can’t seem to brush them out sufficiently enough…so I brush them out for her with all the detangled in New York City and still she hates it. I tried to convince her to keep it long, but she wanted it short, so bye bye long hair.
She also has a very loose front top tooth. Any day now!
Gordon came home Friday night as usual and we were able to celebrate his birthday! We had a low-key celebration with a few presents (we have no room) and homemade ice cream cake. I had planned to take Gordon on a helicopter tour of the city as a surprise, but the company canceled our flight because of the bad weather. Too bad! So, maybe another time 🙂 We ended up going out to dinner just him and I. It was the first date we’ve had since March! I guess there was the time we were in the city looking for an apartment when we were alone briefly for a day. But that doesn’t count 😉
We went to get some Asian food (Gordon’s favorite) and OBAO didn’t disappoint! More details below.
I also took the kids to the pediatrician’s office and I LOVE HER. She’s from Chile originally (I think?) and is so laid back. They scheduled us so no one was in the office when we were and we got really thoughtful, great service. Plus the nurse was like “You don’t look like you’ve had three kids. You’re so young!” Instant friend right there.
I had different concerns for each child, but she put me at ease and had great recommendations and advice. Plus we were able to schedule out some other follow-up appointments for two of my children.
This week, Blake also picked out a prize to work towards with good behavior and chores. He chose a tube filled with plastic bugs. Whatever works for you, dude.
Gordon and I also spoke in church yesterday! I was so nervous, but happy to have done it. Public speaking isn’t quite my forte. I shared a scripture that made me think of all the wonderful and kind people who have helped my family on this journey to get to New York and all the support I get from you kind readers too:
“Thy friends do stand by thee, and they shall hail thee again with warm hearts and friendly hands.” D&C 121:9.
You guys never cease to amaze me with your recommendations, kind comments and general warmth you bring to my life, especially in light of this post where I was slightly melting down. Thank you!!
Coming up this week:
The nanny continues to help and I feel more and more sane. Hooray for sanity!
We are going to go visit DC this weekend! It’s only 3 hours away 🙂 I’m also trying to find nearby cities that would be easy to visit before the summer is over. Philly, Boston, the Hamptons, maybe somewhere in Rhode Island? Where should I go? I’d like a beach town, methinks.
I’m posting the most glorious pizza recipe this week and you are going to have to stop what you are doing and make it immediately. I’ve made TWO of them in the course of 20 hours. It’s so freaking good.
I’m hoping to take some pictures of our apartment to post, but that requires the stars to align so everything is clean while the sun is shining. It hasn’t happened yet. Haha! Soon, I hope!!
Food to try in NYC:
The mini doughnuts at the Doughnuttery are yummy! Our favorites were the cinnamon sugar and fruity cereal. I think there is only one location at Chelsea Market, but of course there could be more that I don’t know of.
We went to OBAO in Hell’s Kitchen for Gordon’s Birthday dinner. The steamed chicken and shrimp dumplings were so so amazing!! And, the pad thai was incredible. Borderline life changing. Haha! All pad thai in the city is so good, but this one is going to be hard to beat. This location only takes cash, so just be aware 🙂
