This Week at the Brennan’s

Lauren and Blake

I’ve just spent the last two hours researching NYC real estate and avoiding writing this post. And by researching, I mean dreaming. But it was fun while it lasted! Ha!

Here’s what happened this week:

The beginning of the week, my kids started their second half of day camp. They started doing field trips to other parts of the city which thankfully saved a lot of the morning arguments over why they HAD to go to camp. (“Mommy will go crazy if you stay home.”)

So they went to camp and I got my work done.

I went to the dermatologist on Tuesday and it was the best experience ever. Like, where has this woman been all my life? I have some scarring on the sides of my face from acne and I wanted to get her opinion of what to do. I also had a few other questions too, but first she wanted to address my adult acne because I STILL HAVE IT. Props to all you other ladies having to deal with work, home, family, kids, life AND acne. We cannot catch a break.

Anyways, she asked me how willing I was to x, y and z and I said “DO IT ALL!!”

So, she worked her magic, gave me a chemical peel, cleared out my pores, shot some stuff into my face to get rid of some cysts that I didn’t know I even had and gave me 3 prescriptions plus an at-home facial system to try.

After 5 days on everything she’s prescribed, it’s working and I feel so much more confident now!! Before when I had way more acne, I felt the need to wear more makeup. The extra makeup would clog my pores and make me break out even more. It was a vicious cycle. So, I’m happy to be breaking the cycle, wearing less makeup and finding healthier skin!

She is my new favorite person. Move over Gordon.

I was able to meet up with my friend Shelly from the blog Cookies and Cups. She lives an hour from the city and we had lunch together plus some sweet treats!! We went to Boulton & Watt and Ice & Vice. Both so so good! Get the Crunchy Quinoa and Kale Salad + the Mac and Cheese (from B&W) And all the ice cream (at I&V) we ate was amazing. Look below for the peanut butter pie IN THE MIDDLE OF MY ICE CREAM CONE.

My kids’ room is slowly coming together. I saw this decal pop up for sale in my FB feed and ordered it right there on the spot. It’ll go above some non-existent book shelves I have yet to find. I’m not very good at this home decorating situation.

I got 3 sets of online groceries delivered to me over the course of 3 days. My memory is not serving me well these days. Thankful people everywhere deliver.

Speaking of delivery, I was tempted 4 days this week to order one of my favorite margherita pizzas from a local shop that is literally half a block away. It’s trouble!! They are at my door in 10 minutes. Not that I speak from experience or anything.

My kids start school on September 7th. I feel like we are the last school in America to start that late. Why start on a Thursday? SO WEIRD.

This weekend, we took Gordon to a lot of our favorite spots that he has never been! We mostly stuck around the waterfront, right underneath the Brooklyn bridge because for us it’s easy to get to and our kids LOVE IT. And, we had extra carousel tickets burning holes in our pockets. So we rode twice and then walked around a little more. We showed Gord the Statue of Liberty from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade (Blake’s favorite part), got pizza from Ignazio’s, went into West Elm to try and get a refund, hung out a bit and then went home. A super fun Saturday!

Sunday (today) I prepped a crockpot dinner and had it cooking all day so that by the time we got home from church, it would be all ready. I made lettuce wraps filled with asian short ribs and a cucumber and carrot slaw. It was delicious! The recipe is from my friend’s new cookbook.

Gordon left right after dinner and took the leftovers with him 🙁 Until next week, my love.

Here’s what’s coming up this week:

With Gordon gone during the week, I have no one to take photos of me. SO! I’m meeting with a photographer tomorrow to snap a few photos. I’m only slightly terrified.

I’m going to take Blake to the elementary school to see his odds at getting into preschool. If not, I’ll be on the hunt for a preschool that is miraculously the same hours as Brooke’s school.

I’ll be editing more videos I’ve shot….slowly getting back into things!

Once Gordon is home next weekend, we are going to the Hamptons for Labor Day! It will be so busy, but we are excited to get out of the city and play at the beach. Hopefully the weather will be awesome 🙂

I have a few conference calls for work this week. I sound so official! Haha! But they are important…so let the good times roll 🙂

I need to look for a dermatologist myself, I hope I have the same luck you did. Good luck with the bookshelves, I have seen people use the Ikea spice racks at small bookshelves, if that is helpful at all. Hope you have a great weekend in the Hampton, the forecasted weather here in New England says its going to be beautiful so here’s hoping New York is close enough to be he same.

LOL at being the last school to start!! NYC has always started school 2 days after Labor Day. It is always weird to me to see that in other states they start in August!! We are in school until the very end of June! I’m sooooo glad Shelly came and met up with you. (longtime follower of her blog and I know she ventures into the city often) Also happy for you about your skin <3 Best of luck with the kids starting school and that you find a preschool that works for you. Enjoy the last bit of summer!

In MN, where we live, we start K-12 after labor day too!!! Wednesday, for most kids. I work at a college and we started last week! Love hearing about your family and YES, you do need a break from your kids, and they need a break from you too!
