Happy belated Mother’s Day!
Here’s what happened this past week:
Brooke’s first week of school went well. She doesn’t like being behind or feeling behind, but that’s how she feels in a few subjects. Mainly computers because they’ve been practicing typing and she hasn’t ever done that because in her last school, they had different ‘specials’ they were focusing on. She’s a little behind in Spanish class too because she’s never taken Spanish before in her life…unless watching Dora counts? On the other hand, she loves Music class and PE. She HATED PE in her last school, but now loves it. What a difference a great teacher makes!
We did our first fold and wash experience through Cleanly and it was amazing. I sent it out in the morning (about 9:15a) and it came back around 7:15p the same day! Everything was clean, folded and ready to be put back into drawers. IT WAS GLORIOUS. I did have to separate it out for each of the children, but besides that, it was great! I could get used to this. It was a little more expensive than I’m used to paying, but I think it was because they charge by pound and I sent ALL the bedding out to be washed as well. Heavy blankets and duvet covers and such. So, this next week should be much much less because we’re washing just the clothes. I’ll keep you posted 😉
On Tuesday or Wednesday, I bought allthethings, including flights to California for a Brennan family reunion. We were debating whether or not to get the nonstop flights or break it up for our kids. We went back and forth, but ultimately decided on the nonstop flights and will deal with the backlash/cranky behavior as it comes. We land around dinner time in LAX which is 8pm Eastern, which will be pretty awful for the boys, but it sure beats a 3am wakeup call. SO excited to see all the Oregon cousins we haven’t seen since we moved away 2+ years ago. (Gordon has a huge family, hence the family reunion.)
Other things I purchased include summer church clothes for the boys. Over the course of having boys and buying church clothes these last 5 years, I found the cutest and most durable shorts and button up shirts are from J.Crew (and J.Crew Factory). I checked both websites and got most of their new outfits from J.Crew Factory for 30% off. (There was a sale…not sure if it’s still going on, but totally worth it!) I got these two button up shirts for both of them and these shorts in the khaki and the green. I actually love dressing the boys in the same outfits. They’re not twins but I don’t care. I may or may not have bought my husband a matching shirt to wear for family photos so all the boys match. Yes, we are those people.
Speaking of Sunday outfits, I bought these new Sunday shoes and am in love! They are fancy enough for church, but still casual enough to dress down for summer days and the best part is they are so so comfortable for walking. We walk everywhere, so I feel like that needs to be a prerequisite for all clothes and shoes I buy. Even with their small platform, they are ridiculously comfortable. The top part of the shoe and the straps are mostly made from stretchy fabric, so it’s a snug fit, but not at all constricting. They are my new favorite item in my wardrobe.
We continue to make the most of our closets and small spaces thanks to a few trips to The Container Store. We are still trying to figure out the best configurations of all our rooms and still have mayyybbbeeee 4 boxes left to unpack, but besides that, we are starting to feel relatively settled. I do keep switching items in kitchen cabinets around because that is totally my domain and I find certain things in certain spots make more sense…it’s just a matter of working the work flow out as I cook. I think another week or so is all I need until it’s perfect 😉
We’ve also held off hanging pictures anywhere because we want to be sure that we like the furniture placement. I think I ordered some rugs for the boys room too?! I don’t remember….should probably check my Amazon cart. Haha!
The weather was pretty good this past week and we’ve been making our way through all the parks in Central Park. We love that there are sand pits in nearly every park! Can’t wait until all the splash pads are all up and running (most of them are, but not from what we’ve found)! See my favorite Summer items for my kiddos here.
My friend Shelly told me about this mascara about a month ago because I asked her why her eyelashes were looking particularly amazing on Instagram stories. I’ve been mulling over whether or not I should try it. Well, I got sucked in and have fallen in love. I used it on Sunday and Brooke was watching me apply it in the bathroom. She said “whoa Mom, it makes your lashes look like the fake ones!” So I think that pretty much sums it up. I have loved using it. Also, started trying Lash Boost this week!! Lots of you have recommended it to me since I don’t really have the time to dedicate to lash extensions like I once could, so I got some from my friend Tia. That, paired with my new mascara and my eyelashes are poppin’!
Mother’s Day was Sunday and we did a bit of a celebration on Saturday and then a little bit on Sunday. My husband got my kitchen knives sharpened and it was literally the best gift I could have asked for. If you’ve never gotten your knives professionally sharpened before, I’d highly recommend it. I also got some lovely tulips (love tulips!!), Bob’s Burgers Monopoly, cute cards from my kids and breakfast in bed Sunday morning. It certainly made me feel special 🙂
Sunday night, I made this Steak (because it’s so easy) with some balsamic maple brussels sprouts and asian cucumber salad. All very simple. And then I bought a Key Lime Pie for dessert. Are you key lime pie lovers? I wanted to make my lemon cream pie but ran out of time slash took a nap instead.
Hope you all had a great Mother’s Day!
Here’s what is coming up this week:
Gordon is back to the midnight shift. I love it and I hate it. I like that he’s home all day and he can take Brooke to school and hang out with the boys in the morning, but then he sleeps all day. But then he’s up for dinner and is able to put kids to bed which is great! But then he leaves and is gone all night. Everything as it’s pros and cons. Trying really hard to look at the pros!!
I’m still doing the lower carb thing, but am not being so strict about it. I’m hopefully going to find a gym to join nearby soon. Once I hit the gym, then I’ll probably become more strict with my eating, but until then, I’m just eating my protein and making lots of lower carb dinners. Making this tonight!
My goal is to have pictured hung by Friday. We’ll see if that is realistic come Friday. Haha!
Coming up on the blog this week are two yummy recipes!! Buffalo Chicken Dip and Cinnamon Butterscotch Cookies. Both very much drool worthy 😉
