Ingredients

  • 1 lb. pasta
  • 1 lb. Sweet Italian Sausage
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1/2 green bell pepper diced
  • 1/2 yellow bell pepper diced
  • 1 jar marinara sauce
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon basil
  • 1 1/2 cups broccoli florets optional
  • Parmesan cheese for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to boil. Cook pasta until al dente and drain. Set aside.
  • While pasta is cooking, break apart Italian Sausage in a large skillet over medium heat. Add in onion and garlic. Stir. Once Sausage is completely browned, add in bell peppers. Cook another 2 minutes to soften slightly.
  • Pour in marinara sauce, water and spices. Add in broccoli, if desired. Stir and simmer covered for about 10 minutes, OR until broccoli is cooked to your liking.
  • Toss with cooked pasta and top with parmesan cheese. Serve immediately.

Storage + Make Ahead Directions

Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container up to 4 days. Reheat on the stovetop or microwave with a splash of water or marinara to loosen the sauce.
Freeze up to 2 months, though pasta may soften slightly. For best texture, freeze the sauce separately and add fresh pasta when serving.
Make ahead by preparing the sauce up to 1 day in advance. Cook pasta fresh and toss before serving.
