In a small saucepan, whisk together the water, brown sugar, and pumpkin puree. Place over medium-low to low heat for about 1-2 minutes or until it begins to become gently fragrant.
Add the pumpkin spice seasoning and vanilla extract and continue to simmer for about 5 more minutes, whisking occasionally.
Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly, about 5 minutes.
*Optional: Strain the syrup through a cheesecloth for a smoother texture, ideal if using in a beverage.
Transfer the syrup to a sealable jar and store in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 weeks.
Before serving, give the jar a little shake to help ensure that anything that has settled at the bottom has been reincorporated.
Notes
* If you are planning on using the pumpkin spice syrup for pancakes, desserts, oatmeal, baking, or giving it as a gift, skip the straining step. You will want the syrup to be thicker for those recipes and straining it will cause it to be too thin and runny.
Storage Instructions
Refrigerator: Store in a sealed jar for up to 2 weeks. Shake before each use.
Freezer: Not recommended since the texture changes once thawed.
Make Ahead: This is perfect to make a few days in advance and keep chilled until needed.
