Ingredient Notes

  • Oreo Cookies + Butter: crushed Oreos and melted butter combined together create the crust.
  • Heavy Whipping Cream + Vanilla extract + Powdered Sugar: ingredients needed to make the whipped cream.
  • Cream Cheese + Powdered Sugar: for the cream cheese layer. Make sure cream cheese is softened at room temperature.
  • Vanilla Instant Pudding Mix + Chocolate Instant Pudding Mix + milk: Whisked together to make the pudding layer. I used whole milk.
  • Easter Bunny Peeps, Sweetened + shredded coconut, Mini Cadbury Eggs, Jelly Beans or other Easter candies: For adorable decorations!
Ingredients for an Oreo lasagna dessert are arranged on a white surface, including Oreos, instant chocolate and vanilla pudding, melted butter, milk, heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and whipped cream.

How to Make Easter Bunny Dirt Cake

This Easter Bunny Dirt Cake comes together in layers, and each one takes just a few minutes. No baking required. Just mix, spread, and chill. For full recipe details, including ingredients and measurements needed, see the printable recipe card down below.

Pulverize Oreos in a food processor until crumbled to fine crumbs. Slowly pour melted butter into Oreos and pulse food processor until well combined.

Pro Tip: If you do not have a food processor you can crumble your cookies by placing inside a ziplock bag and hitting with a mallet or rolling pin. Fine crumbs are what you are looking for. Then just stir in the melted butter.

Reserve a handful of Oreo crumbs to sprinkle on top. Press remainder of buttered cookie crumbs into a 9×13 glass baking dish with clean hands or an offset spatula. Place in refrigerator to chill while making the next layer.

2. Make Homemade Whipped Cream (to be divided in half)

Cream together by combining heavy cream, powdered sugar and vanilla in a large bowl and beat with a stand mixer or hand mixer until soft peaks form. Divide in half and set aside.

Pro Tip: The whipped cream used for this is my homemade whipped cream recipe. I doubled it for this recipe to have enough to divide it between the cream cheese layer and for the topping. You can substitute Cool Whip whipped topping if you please.

3. Make the Cream Cheese Mixture

Mix softened cream cheese and powdered sugar, then fold in half of the whipped cream. Spread over the Oreo crust layer. Place in refrigerator to chill while making the next layer.

4. Add the Chocolate Pudding Layer

Whisk together the vanilla and chocolate pudding mixes with milk for 2 minutes.

Spread pudding mixture over the cream cheese layer. Cover and place in the fridge to chill for at least 10 minutes.

Pro Tip: The type of pudding you use matters!! Make sure you’re using instant pudding mix, not the cook and serve kind. Instant pudding does not need to be cooked before using. Cook & Serve pudding does need to be heated on the stove first before using.

5. Finish with Remaining Whipped Cream

Spread remaining whipped cream over the pudding layer and sprinkle with remaining crushed Oreos.

6. Time to Decorate!

Pour coconut shreds into a small bowl. Add a few drops of green food coloring and stir until your desired color is achieved. If using a gel food coloring, add a few drops of water along with it.

Decorate top of cake with coconut shreds for the “grass” and then add your Peeps, mini Cadbury eggs and jelly beans. Get creative! Serve chilled.

Tips for Success

  • Crush Oreos finely so the crust presses together evenly.
  • Use room temperature cream cheese so the filling mixes smoothly.
  • Fold whipped cream gently to keep the filling light and airy.
  • Chill each layer briefly so the dessert slices cleanly.
  • Decorate just before serving if you want the candy colors to stay vibrant.

Notes

Storage Instructions

Store Easter Bunny Dirt Cake covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
For best results, keep the decorations on top until closer to serving time so the colors stay bright. The dessert can be made a day in advance and chilled overnight, which actually helps the layers set even better.
Freezing works if needed. Wrap the dish tightly and freeze up to 1 month. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving.

Variations

  • Oreos: I don’t recommend using double stuffed or mega stuffed Oreos for this recipe. The cream cheese layer becomes too greasy with all that extra cream, causing the crust to be too wet. You can try using a different flavor of Oreos for a fun spin on the original version.
  • Pudding Mix Flavors: I love the combination of chocolate and vanilla in this recipe, but feel free to use what you have on hand or would prefer. Using two boxes of chocolate or dark chocolate would make an amazing chocolate lasagna as well.
  • Swap out Peeps for gummy worms: for a spookier version at Halloween.
