Pizza Knots | A Fun Pizza Night

Friends, meet the pizza knot. Have you heard of garlic knots? Those little dudes are all over the interwebs, but Pizza knots? Notsomuch.

So, these taste just like pizza, but are cuter, messier, cheesier and all around more fun to eat. And make. And then eat again.

You must make these pronto. I promise your life will get 37% better.

Main Ingredients Needed

This is a basic pepperoni and cheese Pizza Knots recipe but you could always change the sauce and the toppings to suit your tastes. Maybe Chicken Alfredo Pizza Knots or even BBQ Chicken Pizza?

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Pizza Dough – I would highly recommend my pizza dough recipe but fresh dough sold at grocery stores these days will do!
  • Pizza Sauce – just regular ol’ pizza sauce here. Super good!
  • Italian Cheese Blend – this blend is perfect because it has mozzarella and parmesan cheese in it.
  • Pepperoni – just a few here and there. The more there are the messier it might be to tie into knots so add these sparingly.
  • Italian Seasoning – this herby addition is an optional garnish.

How to Make Pizza Knots

Don’t let this Pizza Knots recipe intimidate you too much, I’ll walk you through each step! Plus all of the nitty-gritty details are in the recipe card below. Let’s do this:

Step 1: Dough, Sauce and Toppings

Start out by rolling some pizza dough into a large rectangle. Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce on half of the dough and then sprinkle with a four-cheese Italian blend and a few pepperoni slices.

Step 2: Fold and Cut

Fold the top part of the dough over to cover your fillings and pinch the edges together to seal. Now, using a pizza cutter, slice into eight even pieces.

Step 3: Tie into a Knot

Now comes the fun/messy part. Twist each piece to try to contain the fillings….then carefully tie it into a knot. They all won’t be pretty, things will get messy and you will question your existence, but I promise you will pull through.

Step 4: Bake

Place each pizza knot onto a prepared baking sheet and top with any extra cheese that fell out and a sprinkling of Italian seasoning. Not all my knots actually looked like knots…..more like….pizza bombs?! Do not fear. This is totally fine.

Bake in the oven until the knots are puffy, golden, crispy, and oozing cheese. The best part 🙂 Hello gorgeous. Be sure to eat these warm to get the full cheese effect.

Sauces to Dip Pizza Knots In

And, be sure to have extra sauce on the side for dipping. Pizza coma straight ahead! Pizza knots are great dipped in a marinara sauce but if you’re into a white sauce check out this brown butter alfredo sauce usually used for pasta.

I’ve now been making these knots for a few years. My family lives them. You can also take any combination of pizza you like and put it inside. Ranch BBQ sauce? Sure. Sausage? Sure. Veggies? Sure. They make great lunches to pull out of the freezer and stick in kid lunch boxes too.

I did everything wrong, no pizza sauce, so I used leftover spaghetti sauce, wrong cheese, so I used what I had including cheese sticks. The main thing I did wrong though was only making one batch of dough, because these were so delicious, there was not enough for everyone to go back for more! Thank you so much for your creativity and your dough recipe!

Well, there are actually things called pizza ropes. They are very similar. A bakery in Western Australia had been making them for about two years. Its sad through because they only ever put tomato paste in. They still taste good but this looks even better and so easy to make. Pizza ropes have been mr favourite for a long time but this looks even better! Sorry if the spelling to some words are different there are slight alterations in the Australian English language. Looks so good, can’t wait to try it out!
