I am in love with this new topping for french toast. Lemon French Toast is light, creamy, sweet, and really really delicious. Serve it for breakfast, brunch, or maybe even dessert. It’s really that good. If lemon isn’t your thing, try this Classic French Toast Recipe.

Lemon French Toast with lemon cream topping and sliced strawberries on top

Lemon French Toast | With Strawberries

Warm french toast topped with sweet lemon cream can be served for a delicious breakfast, brunch, or even dessert!

My Mom makes a ricotta version of this lemon cream that we stuff into crepes that is downright to die for {recipe in my ebook}. I used cream cheese because I always have that in my fridge, but ricotta would be equally delicious. Spread this on generously to those warm french toast slices and dig in!

Main Ingredients Needed

Only 6 ingredients needed for the french toast–all are likely staples in your pantry already! For the topping you’ll need some cream cheese, lemon ZEST and lemon JUICE, and if you’d like the complete mouth watering, tastebud experience, some fresh strawberries and powdered sugar to garnish on top.

  • Eggs + milk- the basis for our custard we will dip our bread in.
  • Vanilla + Cinnamon- I love the hint of cinnamon and the slight sweetness vanilla adds.
  • Sliced white sandwich bread– I like using thicker, ‘texas toast’ slices of day-old bread
  • Butter– for frying

For the Topping

  • Cream cheese- softened
  • Sugar- to sweeten
  • Lemon zest + lemon juice- for that lemon-y goodness!
  • Fresh strawberries + powdered sugar- for garnish

I made Lemon Cream French Toast This Morning and it was wonderful. I made 6 slices and there is enough cream to have 6 more slices for my husband and I on Mothers day, this Sunday.

    Thank you for the recipe!

OMG Lauren, we must be long lost twin sisters?! Well, maybe not twins, you’re much younger than me. Anyway, you described me to a “T”. I just had a gung-ho cleaning day Saturday. Ya know why? Because my husband had to work. If he was home, I wouldn’t have cleaned. I’m an all or nothing cleaner for sure. The other thing that REALLY motivates me to clean is going away on vacation. I have to have my house clean before I leave because the last thing I want to do after a vacation is come home and clean. Ugh! Have a great day!!

  9. Jessica @ A Kitchen Addiction

Love the idea of topping french toast with a lemon cream! This is a beautiful breakfast!

  10. Anna (Hidden Ponies)

Such pretty spring French toast, love it! I’m sure your family appreciates you making their cleaning job easy with plenty of evident dirt, I may adopt the same approach 🙂

  11. Janelle

I go through the same phases too! There are times when I just don’t care and I’m too lazy to clean, but then I reach a point where I can’t stand it anymore and I make myself clean! With a dog and two cats, my house can get (& feel) really filthy after awhile with no cleaning.

I have to remind myself that the dishes can wait, the dust balls can gather. Take time to spend with yourself and your family. You’ll never remember those dirty dishes but you’ll remember your babies. Your FT is so fresh! Loving it!

  13. Karen

This does sound delicious. Think I could just use ricotta and eat it like pudding!
Thank you for a great idea!
