Ingredients Needed for Easter Rice Krispies Treat Eggs

Only 3 simple ingredients needed to make Rice Krispies Treats. Add Cadbury Mini Eggs and you have everything you need to make Easter Rice Krispies Treat Eggs!

  • Butter: Salted or unsalted, for a rich flavor.
  • Mini Marshmallows: Soft and fluffy, creating the perfect gooey texture.
  • Rice Krispies Cereal: Crispy and crunchy, adding texture to the treats.
  • Cadbury Mini Eggs: Sweet and chocolatey, a festive addition to the recipe.

Variations

  • Chocolate Drizzle: Add a melted chocolate drizzle on top for extra decadence. I like using different colored candy melts or melting white chocolate chips for this!
  • Nutty Twist: Incorporate chopped nuts for a crunchy variation.
  • Fruity Flavors: Mix in dried fruit for a burst of sweetness.

How to Make Easter Rice Krispie Treat Eggs

For full recipe details, including ingredient measurements, see the printable recipe card down below. Here is step by step what to expect when making these Easter treats:

1. Prep Pans + Rubber Spatula

Line a sheet pan with parchment paper or wax paper. Spray a large pot and a rubber spatula with nonstick cooking spray.

2. Melt Butter + Mini Marshmallows

Place pot over medium heat and melt butter. Pour in 10 oz bag of mini marshmallows and stir to coat in butter. Continue stirring until marshmallows have melted completely. Remove from heat.

3. Add in Rice Krispies + Remaining Marshmallows

Pour in crispy rice cereal and stir to coat in melted marshmallow mixture. Once mostly coated, stir in the remaining 5 ounces of marshmallows. They will melt slightly from the heat, but not completely which is what you want. Also add in Cadbury Mini Eggs and stir until combined well.

Pro Tip: You need to work very quickly in this step or the mini Cadbury eggs will melt everywhere and make for a not so pretty Rice Krispies treat. You want them to stay in tact. Alternatively, you can save a handful of the candies and place strategically on the outside of each Rice Krispie egg.

4. Form Egg Shapes + Allow to Cool

Using lightly greased fingers, take a handful of the mixture and form into Easter Eggs. Place on baking sheet to set and cool. Allow to cool completely before moving them to serve or store.

5. (Optional) Add Extra Mini Eggs to Outside of Eggs

If you saved some of the Cadbury mini eggs, strategically place them all around the egg treat for a nicer presentation. Other cute ideas would be jelly beans or chocolate robin eggs.

Tips and Tricks for Success with Easter Rice Krispie Treats

Just a couple tips and tricks that I have found to be helpful during the entire process and bring the most success in making these.

Use fresh marshmallows

Buy a new bag instead of using the bag in your pantry that has been sitting there for how many months (???). Trust me, fresh marshmallows are the way to go.

Gently pack

When forming the egg shapes, you want to press the rice krispie-marshmallow mixture into an egg shape with your hands, hard enough to hold its shape, but gently enough to not pack it rock solid, resulting in a blob that can’t be eaten (yikes!). The extra marshmallows will help avoid this.

Use plastic Easter eggs as a mold

Of course making these “free form” work just fine, but if you want to use the inside of a plastic egg as a mold, I would suggest rounding up 18 of them, wash and dry, then spray with non stick spray. Leave Rice Krispie mixture in the eggs until completely cool, then carefully remove from the plastic Easter egg with a butter knife.

Greasy fingers

To pack your treats into the pan without making a mess, grease your fingers, then gently press/spread the mixture into the pan. Voila!

Rice Krispies Treats Storage Directions

Store in an airtight container or wrapped tightly in plastic wrap for up to 3-4 days at room temperature to maintain freshness.

Make Ahead: These treats can be made 1 day in advance and stored until ready to serve.

Freeze: Believe it or not you can freeze Rice Krispie Treat Eggs! Store in an airtight, freezer safe container for up to 1 month!
