Ingredients Needed for Peanut Butter Sauce

This peanut butter dessert sauce is incredibly simple to make with just 4 pantry staples. It’s the perfect balance of sweet and nutty, enhancing everything from cold ice cream to warm cakes. You can easily adjust the consistency and sweetness to your personal taste, and it stores beautifully in an airtight container for later use. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Creamy peanut butter – Use regular peanut butter, not natural creamy peanut butter, for the best creamy texture. If you choose to use a natural peanut butter, expect the consistency to be different.
  • Powdered sugar – Adds sweetness and helps create a smooth sauce.
  • Vanilla extract – Enhances the flavor, especially for dessert applications.
  • Milk – Adjusts the consistency; use coconut milk for a dairy-free or vegan peanut sauce.

Variations

  • Make it extra sweet – Swap powdered sugar for maple syrup, coconut sugar or brown sugar.
  • Add crunchy peanut butter– switch up the texture for a nuttier sauce.
  • Add richness – Stir in a little melted butter or heavy cream for a more decadent sauce.
  • Chocolate twist – Mix in a tablespoon of cocoa powder or melted chocolate.
  • Peanut-free option – Substitute peanut butter with sunflower seed butter or cashew butter.

    Hi Lauren,
This sounds absolutely delicious! One question for you–it says to let sauce cool to room temperature, but I do not see anything in the instructions to indicate the sauce would be cooked. Could you clarify this for me? Maybe I just overlooked a cooking process when reading.

Thanks for all your delicious recipes and helpful hints.

Anne, thanks for catching that. Not sure how that step slipped in there, but this sauce is NOT cooked, so just disregard. 🙂
