Baked Ravioli

Baked Ravioli

Remember my Browned Butter Alfredo Pasta? Well, I just made that recipe more decadent by using Four Cheese Ravioli instead of pasta, tossed it together with my homemade browned butter alfredo sauce, and broiled the heck out of it. It’s kind of a fancy-ish meal but takes very little time to throw together.

Main Ingredients Needed

This Baked Ravioli Recipe is dangerous because it’s a million calories in 20 minutes flat. But also, it’s so easy to throw together with minimal ingredients (that I sadly always have on hand) and this mama craves the easiest of dinners these days. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Salted Butter – you can use unsalted butter too, just make sure to season it later. More about browning butter below!
  • Heavy Cream – this thickens the alfredo sauce.
  • Parmesan Cheese – if you can find real Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, use that! The pre-grated parmesan cheese you can buy at the store isn’t the real deal and doesn’t taste nearly as good.
  • Salt and Pepper – season to taste! I tend to add a lot of pepper.
  • Four Cheese Ravioli – these can be found in the refrigerated section at your local grocery store. You can always make your own homemade ravioli too!

How to Make Baked Ravioli

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to boil.
  2. While water is heating, melt butter in a heavy-bottomed deep skillet over medium heat. Swirl pan occasionally to brown milk solids in the butter. Once the butter starts to turn a medium brown color, turn heat to low and immediately pour in the cream. Pan will sizzle, but as you stir it will subside. Sprinkle in cheese and continue stirring until cheese is completely melted and sauce is smooth. Taste and add in salt and lots of pepper, as desired.
  3. Add fresh ravioli to boiling water and cook according to package directions. It should be around 3 minutes or so. Drain completely and place ravioli into a buttered casserole dish. Pour alfredo sauce over top hot ravioli and stir gently to coat all ravioli in the sauce.
  4. Place under the broiler to brown. Remove from oven and serve immediately.
Note: If you need to keep this warm in the oven, cover with foil after the top has browned and turn oven onto 200 degrees. Perfection!

Baked Ravioli Tips and Tricks

(some affiliate links below)

  • Browning Butter. Making this alfredo is really quite simple to do! The only thing you have to be careful of is burning the butter. It can go from brown to burnt in a hot second. Once it starts foaming, you should be getting close. The butter should get brown speckles in it and it should smell nutty.
  • Utensils for Sauce. A flat whisk works really well for melting the cheese into the sauce and getting it super smooth.
  • Skillet Choices. Using a heavy-bottomed skillet is really beneficial for even-steven cooking and can help prevent burning. This is a great one I have and use.
  • Casserole Dish. I baked my ravioli in an oval casserole dish from Crate & Barrel. I couldn’t find it on their website, but this is a similar one. Of course a 9×13 works perfectly well too.

Any leftover Baked Ravioli can be stored in an airtight container and be kept good in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. To reheat simply warm in the microwave, stirring occasionally, until heated through.

Side Dishes

Looking for some healthy side dishes for this carby dish? Why not roast some vegetables while you whip up the sauce!

Anyways, I have a few links and tips for making this recipe (scroll down) and I have the printable recipe below that. So enjoy!! And may your weekend be a little more relaxing and enjoyable than mine.

I made this dish this evening and it was amazing! Instead of Ravioli, I used Tortellini ( it’s what I had) and topped it off with parsley. The Perfect dinner.

Fantastic! I paired this sauce with Pasta Prima’s spinach and mozzarella ravioli which I got from Costco. I also mixed the seasoning packet that came with the ravioli into the sauce. Freakin delicious recipe. Thanks! My husband, nephew and I loved it. It will now be a staple in our home.

Made this last evening for dinner, but made a few substitutions since I didn’t have four cheese ravioli I used butternut squash ravioli. I amped it up a little by sprinkling crumbled bacon on top. Will definitely be making this a staple. It was delicious!

Really annoying question… do you think the cream can be subbed with evaporated milk or fat free evaporated milk? I’ve also heard of fat free half and half though I cannot imagine what that is like? My husband is on a diet but still misses decadent foods. I’d love to try with slightly fewer calories. I mean, obviously there’s still pasta and cheese…baby steps!
