Oreo Lasagna is the chocolate lasagna recipe you want. Period. The layers are thick, creamy, and stacked just right so every bite has cookies, cream cheese filling, silky pudding, and fluffy whipped cream. I built this one for maximum payoff with simple ingredients and a layout that slices cleanly. It chills quickly, sets beautifully, and tastes even better the next day.

A glass dish containing Oreo lasagna—a layered dessert with a chocolate cookie crust, cream layers, chocolate pudding, and whipped topping, with a portion removed.

Ingredient Notes

  • Oreo cookies – Crushed for the crust and sprinkled on top. Reserve a handful before mixing with butter for that pretty finish.
  • Unsalted butter – Melted and mixed with cookie crumbs to form a firm, sliceable base.
  • Heavy whipping cream – Whipped with powdered sugar and vanilla extract for a light, fluffy topping that tastes fresher than store bought.
  • Powdered sugar – Sweetens both the whipped cream and cream cheese layer without adding grit.
  • Vanilla extract – Adds warmth and balances the chocolate flavor.
  • Cream cheese – Softened to room temperature so it blends smooth and creamy.
  • Instant vanilla pudding mix – Lightens the chocolate layer and gives structure.
  • Instant chocolate pudding mix – Brings the rich chocolate flavor that makes this a true chocolate lasagna.
  • Milk – Cold whole milk helps the pudding set thick and silky.
Ingredients for an Oreo lasagna dessert are arranged on a white surface, including Oreos, instant chocolate and vanilla pudding, melted butter, milk, heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and whipped cream.

How to Make Chocolate Oreo Lasagna

This chocolate lasagna recipe is all about simple layering. No baking. Just mix, spread, chill, repeat. Let it all firm up nicely in the fridge and you’ll be all set – literally! For recipe details, including ingredients and measurements needed, see the printable recipe card down below. Here is step by step what you can expect when making this recipe:

Pulverize Oreos (regular Oreos, not double-stuffed) in a food processor until crumbly. Slowly pour melted butter into Oreos and pulse food processor until well combined.

Pro Tip: If you do not have a food processor you can crumble your cookies by placing inside a zip top bag and hitting with a mallet or rolling pin. Fine crumbs are what you are looking for. Then just stir in the melted butter.

Press buttered cookie crumbs into a 9×13 glass baking dish with clean hands or an offset spatula. Place in refrigerator to chill while making the next layer.

2. Make the Whipped Cream (to be divided in half)

Combine heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar and vanilla extract in a large bowl and beat with a stand mixer or hand mixer until soft peaks form. Set aside.

Pro Tip: The whipped cream used for this is my homemade whipped cream recipe. I doubled it for this recipe to have enough to divide it between the cream cheese layer and for the topping. You can substitute Cool Whip whipped topping if you please.

3. Second Layer- Make the Cream Cheese Mixture

Place softened cream cheese and powdered sugar in a bowl and mix to combine. Fold in HALF of the homemade whipped cream until combined.

Spread cream cheese/whipped cream mixture overtop the Oreo layer. Place in refrigerator to chill while making the next layer.

4. Third Layer- Make the Pudding

Combine chocolate and vanilla instant pudding mixes with cold milk, whisking for 2 minutes.

Spread pudding mixture overtop the cream cheese/whipped cream layer. Cover and place in refrigerator to chill at least 10 minutes.

Pro Tip: The type of pudding you use matters!! Make sure you’re using instant pudding mix, not the cook and serve kind. Instant pudding does not need to be cooked before using. Cook & Serve pudding does need to be heated on the stove first before using.

5. Fourth Layer- Spread Whipped Cream

Spread remaining whipped cream overtop pudding layer. Sprinkle with remaining Oreo cookie crumbs for garnish and chill for another 20 minutes. Serve chilled.

Pro Tip: If you’re feeling artsy, you can also decorate this Oreo lasagna with chocolate shavings, chocolate curls, mini chocolate chips or even different color oreos for festive holidays.

Tips for Success

  • Let the cream cheese sit at room temperature so it blends completely smooth.
  • Press the Oreo crust firmly so it holds together when sliced.
  • Use cold milk for the pudding so it thickens properly.
  • Chill between layers so everything sets cleanly.
  • For picture perfect slices, wipe the knife clean between cuts.

Storage Instructions

Store covered in the refrigerator up to 4 days. Keep chilled until ready to serve so the layers stay firm.
You can make this recipe a full day ahead. In fact, it slices even cleaner after several hours in the fridge.
Freezing works best without the whipped cream topping. Wrap tightly and freeze up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator, then add fresh whipped cream before serving.

Variations

  • Oreos– I don’t recommend using double stuffed or mega stuffed Oreos for this recipe. The cream cheese layer becomes too greasy with all that extra cream, causing the crust to be too wet. You can try using a different flavor of Oreos for a fun spin on the original version.
  • Peanut Butter– Make a peanut butter chocolate lasagna by adding some smooth peanut butter to the cream cheese layer.
  • Strawberry Lasagna– Use golden Oreos instead of original Oreos and use strawberry jello instead of pudding. Or instead of Oreos, make a graham cracker crust!
  • Pudding Mix Flavors- I love the combination of chocolate and vanilla in this recipe, but feel free to use what you have on hand or would prefer. Using two boxes of chocolate or dark chocolate would make an amazing chocolate lasagna as well.

The recipe says 1/2 stick butter. Is that 1/4 of a cup or 1/2 of a cup? I have two different sizes of butter sticks in my refrigerator.
